Chapter 1039
When Love Comes Late
She had sensed Matthewâs hesitation towards children since the previous nightâs banquet, and his reaction just now seemed to confirm her fears.
It appeared that Matthew did not want a child-not with her.
The night had fallen when Stella and Matthew arrived home.
After completing her nightly routine, Stella lay quietly on the bed, her gaze fixed on the ceiling.
A few minutes later, Matthew joined her, draping his arm across her waist.
Breaking the silence, Stella mentioned her dayâs events.
âI saw Alina today.
Iâve agreed to work as a designer with the film crew and will be staying on set for a few days.
â
This news caused Matthew to pause.
âWhy do you need to stay on set?
If itâs too far, I can arrange for a driver to bring you back and forth every day.
â
âNo, I think itâs good for us to spend some time apart.
Weâve been living together for a long time,â Stella responded nonchalantly.
Sensing an undercurrent of tension, Matthew couldnât help but frown.
He wanted to ask why, but before he could, she pushed his hand away and turned her back to him.
âIâm a bit tired.
Please turn off the Light.
â
Left with no other option, Matthew remained silent and reached out to turn off the Light.
It was the first time Stella gave Matthew the silent treatment after they got back together.
Matthew tossed and turned the whole night, unable to sleep.
He kept turning Stellaâs sudden change in attitude over in his mind, trying to understand what upset her, but he couldnât figure it out.
It was only after dawn broke that he finally succumbed to sleep.
When he woke up in the morning, the other side of the bed was cold and empty-Stella was gone.
Matthew had hoped that after they would talk and sort things out.
But instead, Stella left without saying anything.
Matthew was so disappointed that he didnât even feel like eating breakfast.
He just went straight to work.
Fernando was on his way to deliver a cup of coffee to Matthewâs office when he noticed Matthew walking in with a distinctly downcast expression.
âMr.
Clark.
â Fernando greeted him quickly.
He was puzzled to see Matthew arriving so early, as it had become a rare occurrence since Stella left Prosperity Group.
What could have happened to cause this change in routine?
