Chapter 1054
When Love Comes Late
Matthew glanced at the medicine box in her hand and replied flatly, âLeave the medicine and go.
â
âMatthew, Iâve been waiting here for you for a while,â Leslie said in a weak, pitiful voice.
âItâs late, and itâs not safe for me to go back alone.
â
Matthew remained unfazed.
âI donât want you showing up at my house anymore.
â
Leslieâs eyes widened.
She hadnât expected Matthew to be so straightforward in rejecting her.
Matthew looked away and walked past her.
As he reached the door, about to enter, Leslie called out to him again.
âMatthew! Leslie rushed over, fixing him with an intense gaze.
âIâve made it so obvious.
Canât you see? I love you.
Why donât you give me a chance?â
Matthew frowned, his face growing darker.
âIâm married.
Out of respect for your father, Iâll pretend I didnât hear what you just said.
â
With that, he shut the door firmly, leaning against it and gritting his teeth.
It took the entirety of his strength not to topple over.
Leslie stood outside, a mix of embarrassment, frustration, and anger playing on her face.
She banged on the door.
âMatthew, I donât care if youâre married.
I just love youâ¦â
Before she could finish, a womanâs voice interrupted her.
âIsnât it a bit inappropriate to harass my husband so blatantly at this hour?â
Leslie whirled to find Stella behind her.
Her face flushed from shame to fury.
Without any intention of courtesy, Leslie snapped, âYour opinion on my doings is unnecessary.
And why the arrogance?â
Stella, eyebrows arched, arms folded across her chest, replied coolly, âIâm Matthewâs wife.
Shouldnât that be enough?â
A sharp discomfort lodged in Leslieâs throat.
Eventually, she retorted, âDo you think that Matthew Loves you because he married you?
You might be nothing more than a toy to him.
â
She paused, a sudden thought striking her, then sneered.
