Chapter 1131
When Love Comes Late
âUpstairs.
â Bennyâs brief response came.
Matthew hung up and climbed the stairs.
The second floor was as run-down as the first, not looking like anyoneâs home.
Benny was already there, waiting.
He sat with a glass of red wine in hand, giving Matthew an indifferent look.
âYouâre right on time, Matthew.
Youâre always punctual, I see.
â
Matthew wasnât in the mood for small talk.
âWhereâs Stella?â
âRelax, take a seat first,â Benny said, a slight smile on his face as he stared at Matthew.
âWe didnât get to chat last time.
Iâve got wine ready.
Letâs have a drink, my dear brother.
â
âWhereâs Stella?â Matthew repeated, his voice low.
âDonât worry.
Sheâs safe.
â Benny smiled.
âBut if you rush things, Iâm not sure sheâll be okay.
â
His tone carried a hint of menace.
Matthew felt compelled to comply to ensure Stellaâs safety.
He took a seat.
âWhat do you want to say?â

â Benny, smiling slightly, poured Matthew a glass of wine and glanced around.
âDo you recognize this place?â
âYes,â Matthew replied coldly.
âI did some research before coming.

â Bennyâs gaze hardened.

He finished his glass in one gulp and gestured for Matthew to drink too.
Matthew didnât hesitate.
He drank quickly.
âDone.

âIâve told you not to be in a hurry.
â Benny filled Matthewâs glass again, still smiling.
âWe have more to talk about.
â
Matthew eyed Benny refilling the glass and his frown deepened.
Benny set the bottle down, his eyes darkening.
âDo you know about Evelynâs death?â
He looked at Matthew.
âShe was shot.
â
Matthew stayed quiet, hoping the conversation would end quickly so he could see Stella soon.
Without waiting for Matthewâs response, Benny continued, âThey plan to demolish this house.
I called you here today to ask for your help in saving it from being torn down.
â
Matthew didnât reply right away.
He took a sip of wine and smiled.
âYouâre alone.
How can you negotiate with me? Evelynâs death isnât my concern.
â
Bennyâs expression changed, yet he kept his cool.
âI know Iâm a problem for you.
Help me fix this, and Iâll leave Seamarsh.
I wonât bother the Clark family anymore.
And Stella? Iâll make sure sheâs back with you, safe and sound.
