Chapter 1139
When Love Comes Late
Fernando noticed Benny drop his gun and quickly signaled the bodyguard, who instantly understood and fired the weapon.
A muffled sound reached Stellaâs ears, and Bennyâs hold on her neck weakened simultaneously.
Benny gazed down in disbelief at the bullet wound in his chest.
âYouâ¦â he uttered, releasing Stella.
He stumbled to his knees on the floor, clutching his chest in agony as blood trickled from his mouth and chest.
Stella froze, panic flashing in her eyes.
She watched Bennyâs lifeless form on the floor, the blood seeping onto the dry cement, spreading slowly.
This was Stellaâs first experience with death so close.
Her mind blanked, and she couldnât move.
Fernando rushed to her, helping her up.
âMr.
Clark is downstairs.
Letâs go see him.
â
Hearing this, Stella began to regain her senses and let Fernando lead her away.
Meanwhile, Flossie saw Benny collapse.
Startled, she dropped her flowers and rushed upstairs.
When she reached the rooftop, she didnât see Fernando and Stella.
Only Bennyâs body was there.
âBen⦠Bennyâ¦â Kneeling beside him, Flossie tried to stop the bleeding, her hands soon covered in blood.
She struggled to speak, her voice barely a whisper.
âHang in there, Benny.
You canât leave me.
Iâm calling for help right now.
Stay with me, please.
â
She quickly wiped her bloodied hands on her clothes and fumbled for her phone, her fingers trembling as she searched for a number.
Benny, overwhelmed by pain, could barely focus, his vision blurred.
âEvelynâ¦â
He tried to smile, causing Flossieâs heart to break.

Fighting back tears, she said firmly, âJust hang on a bit longer, Benny.
Iâm taking you to the hospital.
Youâre going to be okay.
â
In the car, Matthew cradled Stella, who seemed lost in her own world, her heart racing.
âYouâre safe now, Stella.
Iâm so sorry I didnât get here sooner,â Matthew whispered, trying to comfort her.
Stellaâs eyes welled up with tears as she heard Matthewâs familiar, soothing voice.
She wrapped her arms tightly around his waist, fighting back her fear with all her strength.
âMatthew⦠I think Bennyâs goneâ¦â
There was a brief pause in Matthewâs usually calm gaze before a sharp, icy light flashed in his eyes.
âHe got what was coming to him.
Donât worry about it.
Itâs not your fault.
â
With her lips pressed together, Stella snuggled into Matthewâs embrace.
His comforting words gradually soothed her.
Once she felt a bit more in control, Stella looked up at Matthew and noticed his pale face.
