Chapter 1170
When Love Comes Late
Letâs not argue, okay?â
âAlright,â Miley agreed, taking a sip of the gr@pe juice.
However, as they waited in the restaurant, time passed, and the appointed hour neared its end.
Yet, there was still no sign of Neville.
Exiting the parking lot, Matthew was just about to step into the restaurant when his phone rang.
It was Neville on the line.
With a hint of regret in his voice, Neville said, âSomething urgent came up, and I canât make it to the restaurant.
Could you please let Miley know for me?â
âWhere are you now?â Matthew paused and asked, concern creasing his brow.
Neville responded, âJust tell Miley Iâm sorry, okay? I really have something important to do.
â
âI canât help you with this,â Matthew declined without hesitation.
âAre you aware of the gravity of the repercussions if you cancel the meeting today? You should tell Miley yourself.
â
Neville sounded even more worried as he replied, âMiley wonât listen if it comes from me.
Please, Matthew, I need your help.
Trust me, itâs a real emergency.
â
Hearing the desperation in Nevilleâs voice, Matthew agreed reluctantly.
âFine, but this is the last time.
â
He ended the call and stood at the restaurantâs entrance for a moment, lost in thought.
Finally, he walked in and took a seat.
He waved a waiter over and said, âLetâs start with the dishes.
â
The waiter, Stella, and Miley all looked surprised.
âMr.
Pierce hasnât arrived yet.
Are you sureâ¦?â the waiter asked.
Stella and Miley were also eager to hear his reply.

Matthew had just asked the waiter to bring out their food.
Once the waiter left, he turned to Miley and said, âNeville wonât be able to join us tonight.
â
Mileyâs face fell in an instant.
After a moment of quiet, she forced herself to sound calm and asked, âWhy isnât he coming?â
Matthew shrugged.
âHe didnât say why.
â
Glancing around at the restaurantâs decor, Miley felt out of place amidst the extravagant lights, almost like a clown.
She realized Nevilleâs love for her must have faded.
Despite the effort he put into setting up this dinner, it seemed like just another attempt to placate her.
She knew deep down that she would always be the one left behind, just like that night, tonight, and likely in the future.
