Chapter 1220
When Love Comes Late
Neville stood up and approached Matthew.
âActually, I came to tell you something important.
Iâm getting married, just like you.
â
Matthewâs brow furrowed as he scrutinized Neville, uncertain whether to take him seriously.
âYouâre getting married?â
âYes, to Susie.
â Neville nodded.
Despite his relaxed posture, crossed legs, and nonchalant demeanor, Nevilleâs tone carried a weight of seriousness.
âAre you sure about this? Have you thought it through?â Matthew asked, confused by Nevilleâs apparent dispassion.
âYes.
Susie and I share a similar background, so sheâs a suitable match.
â Nevilleâs voice was Light, devoid of the joy one might expect at such news.
âAs for Miley, perhaps we werenât meant to be together.
â
If it werenât for his health concerns, Neville might have fought for Miley no matter how much his mother was against it.
But there was no room for ifs and buts in his life.
It seemed like he was destined to have a future without Miley.
Neville remained seated, his expression betraying no regret or sorrow.
âOkay.
As long as youâre sure about your decision,â Matthew responded with equal indifference.
âThereâs one more reason for my visit today,â Neville continued.
âI wanted to invite you to my engagement party.
Itâll be an opportunity to formally introduce you to Susie.
I expect our paths to cross frequently in the future.
â
Matthew gave a slight nod, acknowledging the invitation.
âIâll be there, but Stella probably wonât make it.
âI understand,â Neville replied, his tone understanding.
He then glanced at his watch and rose from his seat.
âI should get going.
I have another appointment.
I wonât keep you any longer.
â
âItâs almost lunchtime.
Why donât you stay and join me?â Matthew asked.
A flicker of hesitation crossed Nevilleâs eyes before he replied vaguely, âI have

a doctorâs appointment for a check-up.
Maybe some other time.
â
âAlright,â Matthew said, not pressing the matter further.
Upon returning home in the evening, Matthew was surprised to find his grandmother, Lucia, in the living room.
âGrandma, why are you here at this hour?â he asked with a hint of concern.
Once he came closer, his attention was drawn to several items on the table.
âWhatâs all this?â
âYou and Stella are getting married soon, and I know youâre both swamped with work.
So, I thought Iâd help by getting started on the wedding invitations,â Lucia said with a gentle smile.
âYou donât have to do all this, Grandma.
â While appreciative, Matthew was also mindful of his grandmotherâs well-being.
âI can have someone take care of these tasks.
Please donât worry about anything.
â
âMarriage is no small matter, Matthew.
â Lucia glared, clearly displeased with Matthewâs suggestion.
âItâs important to oversee these details personally.
You canât just delegate everything to others.
â
