Chapter 1280
When Love Comes Late
Lowering his head, he began administering CPR, his mind racing.
âMiley, please, wake up! I was wrong.
Come back to me.
â
His pleas echoed in the still air as Miley lay unmoving, her hands chillingly cold.
Neville refused to give up despite the fear gripping his heart.
He continued applying CPR.
Then, a cough escaped her mouth, and her eyelids fluttered.
Relief flooded Neville.
He scooped her close and held her tightly.
He murmured, âThank God youâre awake.
You scared me half to death.
Thank God!â
Dizzy from the gas, Miley clung to him in silence, seemingly unaware.
Neville then heard sirens as an ambulance pulled up.
He explained the situation to the medical staff, his voice shaky throughout.
Seeing Miley conscious, the paramedics assessed her.
âItâs mild gas poisoning.
Sheâll be fine, but you need to check your gas lines.
â
Neville nodded, a wave of relief washing over him.
After the paramedics left, he held Miley close in the fading light, watching her come back to herself.
With a touch to his arm, she awkwardly pulled away, looking out at the darkening sky.
âThanks for saving me.
â
His voice low, Neville asked, âWhy do this to yourself, Miley?â
By that point, she had already regained her composure.
Her cool eyes met his.
âI was hungry.
I wanted to cook.
I didnât notice the leak.
â
âTake care, Miley,â Neville rasped.
âYou canât rely on luck forever.
â
He finished speaking, and silence settled between them.
After a long time, Neville cleared his throat.
âRemember that chance you promised me? Can we talk now?â
Miley nodded wordlessly.
Taking a deep breath, Neville clenched his fists.
He poured out the story of his illness.
âI saw that illnes

Breaking up seemed right.
But Iâve regretted it every day since.
Miley, please give me another chance.
Letâs begin again.
â
Tears welled in Mileyâs eyes.
âBegin again?â she choked out, turning to face him.
âDo you think regret means a redo? Is it really that simple? Am I that simple?â
Neville opened his mouth to speak, but Miley cut him off.
âJust because you have an illness, you chose to throw me away? Was that your only ârightâ choice?â
Mileyâs questions left Neville speechless.
He avoided her gaze, unsure how to respond.
âIs our love so fragile in your eyes?â Miley pressed, her voice trembling.
âYou just threw it away without even consulting me.
Do I mean so little to you?â
