Chapter 1347
When Love Comes Late
âYou donât need to know that.
Iâm safe,â Leo answered hurriedly.
âBut Iâm a bit short on cash.
Can you lend me some? I need two mil.
And if thatâs not enough, Iâll hit you up again.
â
âAre you serious?â Elizabethâs voice rose, scanning her surroundings instinctively.
Seeing no one paying attention, she continued, âI donât have that kind of money on me right now.
â
Leo chuckled.
âStop playing games.
Youâre a Wallace, for crying out loud.
How can you not scr@pe together two million? You just donât want to give it to me.
And if you donât, I canât promise what I might do.
Remember, Iâm a lawyer too, so donât push me!â
Elizabeth took a deep breath, suppressing her anger.
It wouldnât do to start a fight with Leo right now.
After a two-second pause, she asked, âHow do you expect me to get you that money?â
Leo shot back, âIâll send you an account number.
Just wire the cash there.
â
Elizabeth agreed with indifference.
As she was about to end the call, she heard a commotion from Leoâs end.
She furrowed her brow and inquired, âAre you at the casino?â
âNo, I am not,â Leo denied, though his tone hinted at some unease.
With a knowing grin, Elizabeth was certain he was dodging Matthew at the casino.
He mustâve been on a gambling streak, hence why he sought her out.
A sudden idea struck Elizabeth.
âI can toss more cash your way but you must do me a favor.
â
Curious, Leo took the bait.
âWhatâs the deal?â
âHelp me take care of someone.
â Elizabethâs tone remained casual, as if discussing lunch options.
But Leo was taken aback, his voice trembling, âYou want to do what?
Kill someone? Liz, youâre out of your mind.
Itâs illegal, I canât do that.
Just give me the two million.
â
Elizabeth scoffed, âLeo, do you really think youâre in a position to negotiate? Youâre in deep now.
Refuse, and you wonât see a penny.
Mull it over.
â
Despite Rose leaving Seamarsh, Elizabethâs worries lingered.
Only the dead could not speak.
Rose had to be taken care of.
âWhat the hell, Elizabeth?â Leo demanded, anger seeping into his tone.
âIâve got the video of you assaulting Stella.
Think Matthew will let you off easy if he sees it? Heâll hunt you down wherever you hide.
You really think youâre safe in the casino?â Elizabethâs words were sharp.
âYou took the video?â Leoâs nerves were frayed but he still held on to his rationale.
âI wonât ever agree to murder.
Even with Matthew breathing down my neck, I wonât budge.

âIs that so?â Elizabethâs tone turned icy, her gaze piercing.
âThen you wonât get squat.
â
With that, she ended the call.
Elizabeth pulled out the SIM card and chucked it down the drain.
Since the day her supposed father had made advances, she realized trust was a luxury.
If she didnât play hardball, sheâd be the one getting played.
And that wasnât happening on her watch.
âElizabeth,â Luther called out.
âTime to shoot.
Whatâre you standing around for?â
Elizabeth plastered on a smile and replied, âComing, Luther.
â
In that moment, she caught Stellaâs slight grin as she prepared clothes.
She murmured, âStella, your days are numbered.
