Chapter 146
When Love Comes Late
Moments later, Perry pushed the door carefully just so water wouldnât spill from the glass in his hand.
He was about to take his first step in when his eyes fell on Matthewâs back.
Why was Stellaâs boss sitting so close to her and staring without moving a muscle? Could it be that he had feelings for her?
Suspicious thoughts threaded Perryâs mind.
After much hesitation, he decided to leave.
It was daytime and although Stella was down with a fever, she hadnât lost her tongue, so Matthew wouldnât dare to do anything stupid.
She was safe alone with him.
Ten minutes later, Cordell arrived.
His face darkened after a simple examination of the patient.
Shoving his stethoscope into his pocket, he glared at Matthew and expressed displeasure.
âYou called me all the way from the hospital this morning just to examine a patient who is down with a minor fever?â
The way Matthew spoke on the phone earlier made him believe that Stellaâs life was in danger.
âCut the crap.
â Matthew gave him a side eye and then asked, âHow is she?â
Cordell packed up his doctorâs bag and answered truthfully, âItâs just a fever, not a big deal.
She has taken some medicine, so she will get better very soon.
â
Matthew was about to say something when Perry came into the room.
âThanks for coming,â he said to Cordell.

He gave Perry a once-over.
With his head tilted a little, he smiled and shot Matthew an inquiring look.
Matthew said coldly, âNow that we know she will get better, letâs take our leave.
â
Matthew and Cordell went out of Stellaâs room.
Perry saw them out.
As soon as they were meters away from the building, Cordell looked back and asked, âIs that man Stellaâs husband? He is so young and handsome.
â
Matthew had a long face as he remained silent.
Cordell sidled up to him and teased, âYou feel unhappy, donât you?
Stellaâs husband appears to be someone with a good temper.
Heâs nothing like you who always wears a frown.
If I were Stella, I wouldnât have thought about choosing you overââ
âAre you done now?â Matthew cut him off in a low voice.
The spark in Matthewâs eyes was enough to tell Cordell to drop the topic.
With a smile, he put his arm around Matthewâs shoulders and asked, âWhere are you headed? Give me a ride.
My car has been sent for maintenance.
I came here in a taxi.
