Chapter 1478
When Love Comes Late
Stella felt a wave of unease.
Her eyes darted around the room, noting that only Flossie and this imposing figure were present.
The sight of a man and a woman alone together led her to a quick assumption.
Could this be Flossieâs boyfriend?
This speculation reminded her of a figure sheâd glimpsed once, though it was a hazy memory.
She felt certain, though, that the man before her carried himself with a maturity that was unmistakable.
Her guard went up.
âWho are you?â she demanded.
As Edmund surveyed Stella, their gazes locked.
Before he could respond, Flossieâs cough grabbed their attention.
Flossieâs eyes fluttered open, landing on Edmund first, then Stella, her expression a mix of surprise and recognition.
âYouâre awake,â Stella exclaimed, a smile breaking across her face.
âHow are you feeling? Letâs get a doctor to check on you.
â
Just as she reached for the call bell, Flossie caught her hand.
âIâm actually feeling quite alright now,â she whispered, assuring her she felt much better.
In the midst of their conversation, a glass of water seemingly appeared out of nowhere, courtesy of Edmund.
Taken aback for a moment, Flossie accepted it with a soft, âThank you.
â
Stella then turned her attention to Edmund, curiosity getting the better of her.
âFlossie, whoâs this?â she inquired.

With a glance towards Edmund, Flossie responded quietly, âA friend.
He was the one who brought me to the hospital today.
â
Sensing Flossieâs reluctance to elaborate, Stella decided not to pry further.
She acknowledged Edmund with a nod.
âI appreciate what you did for Flossie.
â
There was no expression on Edmundâs face, nor did he respond.
Concluding him to be rather reserved, Stella shifted her focus back to Flossie.
Observing her weariness, Flossie suggested, âYou should head back.
Itâs getting late, and you need your rest.
â
âIâm staying right here with you tonight,â Stella insisted, guilt creeping into her voice.
âI shouldnât have let you be by yourself.
