Chapter 1488
When Love Comes Late
Haley plopped the bags down, grabbed Stellaâs hands, and eyed her from head to toe.
âAre you alright? You mentioned the snowstorm last night and I couldnât sleep a wink worrying about you.
I tried coming over then, but the snowfall was nuts.
There were no taxis so I had to wait till now.
â
Stella felt touched.
Sheâd mentioned the snowstorm yesterday, assuring Haley everything was cool and she didnât expect her here today.
âIâm really okay,â Stella reassured her.
âItâs freezing out.
Get in here.
â
After saying that, she scooped up the bags.
âWhatâs in these?â
Haley tried grabbing one bag but Stella stopped her.
âItâs just some groceries,â Haley explained with a grin.
âIâm whipping up a meal for you.
â
After ditching her shoes, Haley scanned the place.
There was no sign of Matthew.
âWhereâs Matthew? Is he not home?â Haley whispered.
Stella placed the groceries in the kitchen.
âHeâs out for the day.
Itâs just us here.
â
Haley relaxed.
Rolling up her sleeves, she headed to the kitchen.
âRemembering our dinner chat, Iâm cooking up your childhood favorites.
â
âNo, we should eat out,â Stella protested.
Haley insisted, âThe roads are a mess from yesterdayâs snow.
Itâs safer indoors.
Youâve missed my cooking.
Let me treat you.
â
Stella had to go along with what she said.
She couldnât wait to dig into her motherâs cooking.
Haley got busy in the kitchen, with Stella lending a hand.
An hour later, the table was decked out with mouthwatering dishes.
As Stella set the table, she noticed Haley lingering, not taking her seat.
Haley seemed Like she had something on her mind but was holding back.
Stella sensed it and asked, âWhatâs up? Is something bothering you?â
Haley nodded.
âYeah, I need to talk to you about something.
â
âSit down first.
Weâll chat after,â Stella urged, guiding her to a chair.
Haley fidgeted, then said slowly, âIâve been crashing at the hotel since I got here.
But it doesnât feel right, like Iâm not fitting in.
