Chapter 1490
When Love Comes Late
Seizing the moment, Stella confessed to Matthew about wanting to rent a place for Haley.
âMy bad.
I should have sorted this out earlier.
â
âNo sweat.
Weâve got spare rooms here.
If Haley arenât keen on hotels, sheâs welcome to bunk with us,â Matthew offered, shooting Haley a small smile.
Haley was floored.
Didnât Matthew despise her? Why the sudden invite to Prosper Bay?
Yet, she wasnât keen on staying here.
The closer to Matthew, the likelier sheâd blow her cover.
Matthew, toying with the cutlery, had a different take.
Bringing Haley closer meant having her under his nose, giving him a shot at uncovering her true agenda.
Stella didnât overthink it.
She just saw it as more time to bond with Haley.
Grabbing Haleyâs hand eagerly, she chimed, âPerfect setup.
You stay in Prosper Bay, and weâll look after you.
â
Forced to smile, Haley couldnât find a reason to decline.
Stella settled beside Haley, linking their arms.
âPhew, what a relief.
I was worried Matthew wouldnât agree to you moving in.
But itâs all good now.
â
Haley managed a smile.
âI hope I wonât be a bother.
â
âWhat do you think?â Stella turned to Matthew.
Matthew nodded.
âSounds good.
Iâve got time today.
We can help you move after dinner.
â
âNo need!â Haley said firmly.
Matthew looked at her meaningfully.
His stare made Haley uneasy.
Haley shifted uncomfortably.
âI mean, youâre busy.
I can pack by myself.
Maybe you could send a bodyguard to help.
â
âDonât worry,â Matthew said.
âYouâre Stellaâs mom.
We should help you out.
â
âThatâs right.
Weâre free today.
Weâll help you move later,â Stella chirped in with an eager nod.
Haley saw no reason to refuse.
She just smiled awkwardly and agreed.
During the meal, Haleyâs discomfort grew.
She racked her brain for a reason to return to the hotel alone but to no avail.
With an eager grin, Stella ushered Haley into Matthewâs car, and the trio set off towards the hotel.
