Chapter 1497
When Love Comes Late
âIn a sec,â Flossie replied.
She stopped guessing and hung up the coat, then made her way over.
Standing by the door, she asked anxiously, âWhatâs up?â
Benny pulled out a box from his pocket and handed it to her.
âA gift for me?â Flossie asked, surprised.
Benny didnât reply, simply offering her the box again.
Taking it, Flossie opened it to find a pair of pearl earrings.
âI havenât given you anything since we were together.
This is just a little something,â Benny said slowly.
Flossieâs doubts about the lipstick vanished.
She looked up, smiling.
âCould you put them on for me?â
A couple days later, Stella wrapped up the final scene and the movie was officially done.
Everybody was over the moon.
The crew and actors were all smiles.
Luther piped up, âHey folks, how about we grab dinner tonight at Starlight Restaurant, 7 oâclock sharp?â
The crowd went wild with cheers.
Luka, Chris, and Stella hopped in a car headed to the hotel.
It was quiet at first.
Stella, feeling beat, closed her eyes for a quick nap.
Somewhere in the haze, Chrisâ and Lukaâs voices drifted to her.
Noticing Stellaâs snooze, Chris dropped his voice as he spoke.
âIâve got a few directors inquiring lately.
I picked out some movie and TV gigs that might suit you better.
Do you want to take a break or dive into the next project right away?â
âHave you got the scripts handy?â Luka asked.
Chris nodded.
âDo you want to have a peek now?â
âLet me have a look.
Iâll mull it over,â Luka murmured.
In the car, even with Luka shuffling around, Stella could still hear pages turning.
The sound made her felt a little sleepy.
Then Chris spoke up again.
âOh, before I forget, thereâs this swanky wristwatch brand hosting a promotion event this weekend.
They sent an invite your way, plus one for Debora.
â
He leaned in, shooting Luka a careful look.
Lukaâs face stayed stoic.
He paused flipping through pages but soon resumed.
He shot down the invite without missing a beat.
âNo, Iâll pass on that.
We shouldnât be sharing the same spotlight.
â
Hearing that, Chris stayed quiet.
He just nodded, whipped out his phone, and got to texting.
