Chapter 1520
When Love Comes Late
Lee inquired cautiously, âWhat now?â
Her face grim, Bertha said coldly, âIâll find a way to keep them apart.
â
Meanwhile, Miley disembarked from the yacht and got into the car to leave.
Ideally, sheâd hail a taxi, but the remote location made that unlikely.
As soon as she settled in, the man returned her bag.
Miley checked her phone.
Three hours had passed, and it was filled with missed calls from Stella and Flossie.
Taking a deep breath, she dialed Stellaâs number.
The call connected immediately.
Stellaâs voice crackled with worry.
âMiley, where were you? What happened?â
Miley replied calmly, âIâm okay.
Just a big order at the parking lot.
We can talk about it later.
â
Back in the downtown area, Berthaâs words echoed in Mileyâs mind.
A heavy weight settled in her heart.
Miley wrestled with whether to tell Neville about the dayâs events.
Bertha was his grandmother; she didnât want to put him in a difficult position.
But avoiding the issue wouldnât make it disappear.
Bertha might take even stronger measures next time.
Miley tried to push the worry aside until she saw Stella and Flossie waiting for her.
Stella rushed over, her eyes scanning Miley for any injuries.
Relief washed over her face when she saw Miley was unharmed.
âI told you I was fine,â Miley said with a relaxed air.
âSee?â
Flossie couldnât hide her concern.
âWe couldnât find you anywhere in the parking lot.
We checked the security footage and saw men force you into a car.
We called you nonstop, but you didnât answer.
We were terrified!â
Miley brushed her hair back from her face, feigning composure.
âIt was just a big client who throws extravagant events.
A bit secretive, thatâs all.
Sorry I worried you both.
â
âThank God youâre okay,â Stella said, taking Mileyâs arm.
âItâs getting late.
Letâs head to the hotel.
Neville and Matthew are waiting.
They are getting anxious.
â
Miley offered a noncommittal nod.
Back in the car, the scenery passing by the window blurred as Miley replayed Berthaâs words in her head.
Sensing her friendâs preoccupation, Stella asked, âWhatâs on your mind?â
