Chapter 1538
When Love Comes Late
Sensing the tension, Stella reached for his hand.
âIt was an accident,â she reassured him, her voice strained.
âDonât worry about it.
â
Matthewâs anger simmered.
He couldnât shake the feeling that Haley was somehow involved, but for now, he pushed it down.
âYou should go,â he said curtly to Haley.
âIâll stay with Stella.
â
Without a word, Haley nodded and hurried out.
Stella watched her leave, a pang of guilt twisting in her stomach.
She turned back to Matthew, her voice laced with concern.
âYou scared her with your yelling.
It wasnât her fault.
â
Matthew sighed, pulling her into a hug.
âIâm the one to blame, I should have been here.
Iâll find whoever did this.
â
Stella shook her head.
âItâs done.
Finding them wonât heal my hand any faster.
â
âs BunnyBookery
Her eyes drifted down to the bandaged limb.
âNow Iâm worried about Bellaâs exam.
â
Matthew squeezed her shoulder.
âI can help with that.
â
âYou?â Stellaâs eyes widened in surprise.
Matthew reminded her, âDonât forget, Iâm a designer too.
As long as you have the ideas, I can explain them to Bella over email.
Weâll figure it out.
â
Stella had to stay at the hospital, and Matthew kept her company.
His expression had remained stern ever since he had spotted the bandage on her hand.
Stella was zoning out, watching some cheesy soap on TV.
Matthew kept checking her hand, asking, âDoes it hurt?â
Stella glanced at her hand and shook her head.
âThe doctor warned it will hurt once the anesthesia wears off,â
Matthew reminded her.
âIf it starts bothering you, just tell me.
â
His eyes brimmed with concern and sympathy for Stella.
Stella simply nodded in response.
Suddenly, Matthewâs phone buzzed.
He peeked at the screen and saw Fernando was calling.
