Chapter 1571
When Love Comes Late
As Stella stepped out of the examination room, she noticed Matthew still on his phone.
âDid you find her? What did she have to say?â
From the cafe to the hospital, confusion had clouded her mind.
It had taken her quite a while to come to terms with Haley being her mother.
Yet now, it seemed all of that was a lie, and there was even a plan to harm her.
Matthew put away his phone, approached her, and wrapped her in a comforting embrace.
âPromise me, youâll keep your calm no matter what news I share.
â
Stella nodded, her voice muffled.
âOkay.
â
After a momentâs hesitation, Matthew said honestly, âHaley has passed away.
â
âWhat?â In disbelief, Stella lifted her head to look at him.
âHow is that possible?â
She had a multitude of questions she wanted to ask Haley.
How could she have died already?
Matthew gave a slight nod, confirming, âShe had a car accident.
Her brake failed because someone had tampered with her brake line.
â
Struggling to contain her shock, Stella inquired, âWho would do such a thing?â
With a serious expression, Matthew replied, âSomeone must be behind her.
And now that Haleyâs been killed, this person probably believes theyâve covered their tracks.
Iâve gotten Fernando to continue investigating.
â
At Seamarsh Airport, Kristian carried his suitcase, his face hidden behind a mask.
He had his phone on one hand while he looked around with caution.
Once the call he initiated connected to the other line, he murmured, âHaley didnât make it.
I already took care of her.
â
Elizabeth stood up from the sofa upon hearing the news.
âUseless!â
Kristian had to distance the phone from his ear upon hearing Elizabethâs reaction.
Elizabeth had nothing to say but blame Kristian.
âI already warned you before that your plan wouldnât work.
I trusted you because you were confident.
Yet, you couldnât even hold up until Stellaâs wedding.
Youâre such an incompetent loser!â
Like Elizabeth, Kristian was upset.
He was convinced that Haley was the right woman for the job, but he was wrong.
He didnât expect her to make mistakes as soon as she approached Stella.
In the end, she was weak-willed and a failure.
But since he chose her, he should take the blame for her mistakes.
That was why even though he was frustrated, too, he just chose to silently accept Elizabethâs wrath.
âWhat should we do next then?â
Kristianâs question put Elizabeth in deep thought.
She sat back on the sofa to think, but nothing came to her.
