Chapter 1583
When Love Comes Late
After ending the call, Stella swiftly changed into suitable attire and headed out to meet Devyn.
They had agreed to rendezvous at Stellaâs preferred coffee shop.
Upon arrival, however, Stella didnât spot Devyn.
Opting for a table, she ordered her beloved drink, though her injured hand prevented her from indulging in coffee as per her doctorâs advice.
Matthew had stashed away all the coffee at home, leaving her eagerly anticipating the taste.
As she took her first sip, a contented smile graced her lips.
With Devyn still nowhere in sight, Stella decided to make productive use of her time and opened her laptop to resume work.
About ten minutes later, the jingle of the cafe door drew Stellaâs attention.
Glancing up, she caught sight of Devyn, her Long-unseen friend.
Hastily shutting down her laptop, Stella rose from her seat to greet her warmly.
Stella observed Devyn with concern, scrutinizing her appearance before gently touching her arm.
Frowning, she inquired, âWhy have you lost so much weight? Matthew mentioned that you had resigned.
What have you been up to lately?â
She guided Devyn to a seat beside her as the waiter brought another cup of coffee.
Devyn smiled.
âIâm still working as a designer.
Iâve launched an online store and have been involved in various private projects.
Thatâs probably why Iâve shed a few pounds.
â
Devynâs demeanor seemed slightly reserved as she lowered her head and adjusted the short hair near her ear.
Stella asked with worry, âHave you been facing financial difficulties lately?â
In her recollection, Devyn had always been a cheerful, carefree individual.
Yet today, Devyn appeared different from the girl Stella remembered, exuding an air of seriousness and fatigue.
Devyn shook her head, mustering a forced smile.
âIâm just paying my dues working hard to establish my career.
Please donât worry about me.
â
She then shifted her gaze to Stellaâs injured hand, inquiring, âWhat happened to your hand?â
Stella withdrew her hand, offering a brief explanation, âI injured it when a door slammed shut on me at an art exhibition.
Itâs nearly healed now.
â
âI see,â Devyn responded with a tinge of sadness.
âYour right hand is injured; you need it for your designs.
You must care for yourself and allow your hand to heal fully.
â
âDonât worry, Iâll be careful,â Stella reassured Devyn with a smile.
Devyn took a sip of her coffee before setting down the cup, her tone softening as she asked, âBy the way, did you enter Bellaâs competition?â
Stella confirmed that she had.
Devynâs gaze drifted to Stellaâs hand as she inquired, âWhat about your injury, then?â
