Chapter 1584
When Love Comes Late
Stella smiled reassuringly.
âItâs nothing serious.
I can manage.
What about you? Did you also register?â
âYes, I did.
But I doubt Iâll make much of an impact,â Devyn responded with a hint of indifference.
âI only entered to potentially boost my storeâs reputation.
However, I have no doubt that youâll emerge as the victor in the end.
â
âIâm not that skilled.
Donât underestimate yourself.
Youâre a talented designer.
Have faith in your skills,â Stella said.
Devynâs smile faltered slightly as she lowered her head, concealing the frustration in her eyes.
Stella reached out and grasped Devynâs hand gently.
âNow that youâre freelancing, why donât you join me at Prosper Bay? We can collaborate and support each other.
You can count on me if you ever need guidance or assistance.
â
âAre you sure about this?â Devynâs surprise was evident.
âBut will your injured hand be a problem?â
âNo worries.
Donât stress over it,â Stella reassured Devyn with a smile.
âWe were tight-knit at Prosperity Group.
I miss those days of collaboration.
Plus, my studio could benefit from your insights.
Youâll be a great help.
Itâs no hassle at all.
â
Stella spoke sincerely, and Devyn accepted without hesitation.
âIâll probably be bothering you quite often.
â
They spent two hours chatting in the cafe and reluctantly left as the sun began to set.
Upon leaving the cafe, Devyn noticed Stellaâs car parked by the roadside.
Stella glanced at Devyn and inquired, âHow are you getting home? Need a ride?â
Devyn waved dismissively.
âNo, Iâm good.
Iâve got a taxi on the way.
You head off.
Take care.
â
Stella nodded in understanding and said, âOkay, you take care.
Text me once youâre home.
â
âSure thing,â Devyn replied, watching Stella depart.
Once the car vanished from view, Devyn looked away.
Devyn took a deep breath, retrieved her phone, and dialed a number.
âIâve spoken to Stella as per your instructions.
Can you release my brothers now?â Devynâs voice was low, her expression grave.
Elizabethâs voice came through on the other end.
âI didnât expect you to care about your brothers a lot.
But what good is just being friendly with her? You need to do something for me.
â
âWhat else is on your list?â
Devyn listened intently to the voice on the phone.
Her initial indifference faded, replaced by a sense of panic and unease.
