Chapter 1588
When Love Comes Late
After a momentâs hesitation, Bella recounted the strange thing that just happened to her.
âDo you believe itâs possible to hold memories that donât belong to you?â she asked, her gaze lowered.
She was so lost that she didnât notice the shifting emotions playing across Kristianâs face.
âBut I canât seem to remember anything now.
Is there something wrong with me?â she added with a distressed shake of her head.
Self-doubt crept in, leaving her to question her own mind.
Kristian found himself in a tight spot.
âCan you recall anything else?â he asked, attempting to mask his unease with calm.
âBeyond what youâve shared, is there anything else that comes to mind?â
Had Bella not been preoccupied with her thoughts, she might have detected the tremor of nervousness in his voice.
Bella shook her head, looking confused and distressed.
âNo, thatâs everything.
Itâs all blurry, but Iâm certain it wasnât my own memory.
Kristian, whatâs happening to me?â
Kristian breathed a sigh of relief.
âI think youâre tired.
The stress and overthinking may be causing your mind to make up something that doesnât exist,â he responded, gripping Bellaâs hand more firmly.
âReally?â Bella asked softly.
âOf course!â Kristian exclaimed with conviction.
âWhat you need now is rest.
Promise me you wonât worry about anything that hasnât happened.
â
He tried to hide his uneasiness as he hugged her, wary of arousing her suspicions.
Bella nodded, believing Kristianâs explanation was reasonable.
She decided to suppress the perplexing thoughts and lingering doubts in her mind.
Despite Bella showing no signs of suspicion, Kristianâs worry didnât wane.
He feared she might recall more and sought to divert her focus entirely.
âThe night is still young.
Itâs been ages since Iâve been home.
Letâs make the most of it,â he said, cradling Bella.
As he leaned down to lift her, Bella resisted and pushed him away.
âIâm exhausted.
Maybe some other time,â she responded, shaking her head.
Kristian felt disappointed and immediately lost his urge.
Late into the night, Bella drifted to sleep.
On the other hand, Kristian kept tossing and turning and could not fall asleep.
After wrestling with his thoughts for a while, he quietly got up and approached Elizabethâs room.
âItâs me.
Open up,â he whispered, knocking softly at the door.
