Chapter 1606
When Love Comes Late
If Stella was indeed pregnant, what would become of this child?
With a furrowed brow, Matthew realized it was time to have a serious conversation with Stella.
Upon his arrival at Prosper Bay, Matthewâs eyes scanned the surroundings, but Stella was nowhere to be seen.
Instead, he saw Oliver.
Despite his surprise, Matthew maintained his composure and greeted Oliver politely.
Oliver reciprocated the politeness before glancing at his watch and inquiring, âWhy have you returned at this hour? Itâs still within working hours, isnât it?â
âI have something I need to attend to,â Matthew replied succinctly and glanced around the living room, noting that Oliver was the only one present.
Matthew inquired, âIs Stella not at home?â
Oliver shrugged helplessly and explained, âShe left with Juliette after Lunch.
They looked mysterious, and Iâm not sure where they went.
They didnât allow me to accompany them.
â
As soon as Oliver finished speaking, Stella and Juliette entered, engaged in lively conversation and laughter.
Upon hearing the voices, Matthew turned around to see Stella and Juliette chatting animatedly, their hands clasped together, clearly in high spirits.
A frown creased Matthewâs brow.
He couldnât help but wonder if Stellaâs buoyant mood was indeed linked to her pregnancy.
Noticing Matthewâs early return, Stella exclaimed in surprise, âWhy are you back so soon today?â
She cast a glance at Juliette, her smile widening.
âBut youâve returned just in time.
I have some wonderful news to share with youâ¦â
Before Stella could finish her sentence, Matthew interjected, âWhat news? About the pregnancy? Have you decided to keep the baby?â
Consumed by anxiety, Matthew failed to detect the ner
ous tremor in his voice.
âHow did you find out?â Stella was taken aback.
Assuming Matthew already knew about Julietteâs pregnancy, she replied, âOf course, we must give birth to the baby.
â
Matthewâs frown deepened, his expression growing even more somber.
With a tentative tone, Matthew asked, âDarling, can we postpone having kids for a while?â
Stellaâs expression instantly turned somber after she heard Matthewâs words.
It became clear that he had rushed home from work, thinking she was the one expecting, only to discuss the possibility of an abortion.
Previously, they had a standoff regarding the idea of having a child.
Now that their bond had grown stronger, Stella had thought that Matthew would warm up to the idea of starting a family.
However, his stance seemed unchanged.
Without uttering a word, Stella simply gazed at Matthew, her disappointment evident.
