Chapter 1608
When Love Comes Late
Matthew wrapped his arms around her, saying, âItâs all in the past now.
And really, itâs not a pleasant memory, so I didnât see the need to bring it up.
â
Stella felt saddened.
âBut without you telling me, how am I supposed to know? I thought you didnât want our relationship to last too long, and thatâs why you didnât want a baby all this time.
â
âOf course not,â Matthew assured her, cupping her face and looking deeply into her eyes.
âI promise Iâll talk things over with you as soon as something comes up in the future and try not to upset you again, okay?â
Seeing Matthewâs genuine demeanor, Stella responded with a note of satisfaction, âYou have to keep your promise.
â
Matthew gently ki*sed her and assured, âOf course.
â
With a twinkle in his eye, he inquired, âAre we good now?â
Stella turned her head away, feeling a bit embarrassed, and admitted, âIâll let it go this time.
â
They shared a few more ki*ses before making their way downstairs.
That evening, they all celebrated Julietteâs pregnancy.
At dinner, Juliette glanced at Matthew, who was bustling around, and then quietly asked Stella, âEverything okay with you?â
Stella nodded, reassuring her, âIt was just a little mix-up.
Weâre okay now.
â
After a momentâs pause, Juliette cautiously brought up another topic.
âAbout the baby⦠Did he explain why he was hesitant?â
Recalling Matthewâs concerns, Stella quickly came up with a reason
.
âHe thinks my career shouldnât be sidelined for a baby right now.
Plus, we want to cherish our time together, just the two of us.
â
Juliette, seeing Stella appear at ease and believing her words, felt a wave of relief wash over her.
âWell, the decision is yours.
â
While Stella and her companions were enjoying themselves, Bella was nose-deep in the emails.
With the deadline looming, folks were dropping their submissions, so Bella took the time to pick out the gems in her downtime.
Over the years, Bella found herself getting more tired and began struggling with her work.
She was aware she needed to pass the torch on to a successor eventually.
Initially, she had eyed Elizabeth but it had turned out she wasnât keen on design so she now had to scout externally.
Amidst email scrutiny, a rap on the door interrupted Bellaâs focus.
Elizabeth barged in, asking, âMom, are you still busy?â
Bella glanced up.
âWhatâs the matter?â
âRemember you said you had a headache? Well, I got you some meds from the doctor,â Elizabeth whispered, placing them on the table.
