Chapter 1663
When Love Comes Late
It was her first visit here with Benny, and she couldnât help but wonder if this meant she was gradually finding a place in his heart.
Then, Benny stood, took Flossieâs hand, and said with a serious tone, âMom, Iâve found the one I want to protect more than anyone else.
I promise to take care of Flossie.
â
Flossie was not used to seeing such a tender and sentimental expression on Bennyâs face.
She bit her lip and turned to his mother.
âMadam, Iâm Flossie.
I grew up an orphan and never knew much warmth.
Luckily, I met Benny.
He has been wonderful to me, and weâre happy together.
Iâll always stand by him.
You donât have to worry.
â
As they held hands, Benny spoke to his motherâs gravestone, sharing memories from their past.
It was during these moments that Flossie truly felt she understood Benny.
For the first time, there was no distance between them.
She squeezed Bennyâs cold hand, trying to pass some of her warmth and strength to him.
Once they finished at the cemetery, the rain began to let up.
Descending the mountain, Benny suggested, âItâs getting late.
How about we grab a meal at a nearby restaurant? Thereâs one just ahead that serves your favorite Steffani chicken.
What do you say?â
âSure,â Flossie replied happily.
As they settled into the restaurant, someone called out to Flossie.
She turned and saw Colin standing there.
Flossie stood to greet him, and Colin looked over at Benny before turning back to Flossie.
âIs he your boyfriend?â he asked.
Flossie remained silent, not offering any objections.
âWho is this?â Benny scrutinized Colin from head to toe, trying to identify him.
âMy boss, Colin Yates.
â After the introductions, Flossie sensed some tension between them and tried to smooth things over.
âMr.
Yates, what brings you here?â
Regaining his composure, Colin replied softly, âIâm here for the wine -tasting event at this restaurant today.
â
Flossie nodded in understanding, offering no further comment.
However, Benny suddenly said in a hostile tone, âI see.
Mr.
Yates, you seem knowledgeable about fine wines.
Could you suggest a few?â
Colinâs expression darkened.
âArenât you aware that Flossie shouldnât drink?â
His response left Benny puzzled, but then he recalled Flossieâs words from the previous night and grasped Colinâs implication.
Yet, he wondered, was it typical for a boss to be aware of his employeeâs health issues Like a stomach problem?
This thought made Benny slightly irritated.
âIâm aware she has gastritis.
â
Colinâs frown deepened.
He was about to say more when Flossie quickly cut in.
âMr.
Yates, why not recommend a wine for me? I wonât drink it.
Benny will enjoy it alone.
â
