Chapter 1701
When Love Comes Late
Emil was taken aback for a moment, and then chuckled quietly to himself, astonished at his mistake.
Turning to leave, he suddenly overheard the woman on the phone mention Bellaâs name.
Bella blurting out Koriâs name got Elizabeth all riled up.
She worried Bella might remember the past, so she called Bellaâs doctor for more medication.
âCan you up the dosage?â she whispered.
Then she noticed someone entering the coffee shop.
She thought that only the staff were around at this time until a man caught her eye.
She frowned, hung up, and got ready to bolt.
The man grabbed her coffee from a waiter and slid into the seat across from her.
Elizabeth eyed him warily but stayed silent.
Emil didnât rush to speak either and just let her stare.
After hearing her mention Bellaâs name, he had already figured out the identity of the woman in front of him.
Heâd heard about her and Stellaâs drama when working with Matthew.
Seeing her now, he knew the gossip was true.
The woman did bear a striking resemblance to Stella.
âElizabeth?â He finally spoke.
âIâm Emil Morgan.
Itâs a pleasure meeting you.
â
She shot him a cold look.
âWhy should I care who you are?â
Emil, having heard tales of Elizabethâs attitude, wasnât bothered by her rejection.
He just grinned and said, âYouâre spirited but some things are better left unsaid early on.
Iâm keen on befriending you.
â
Elizabeth, icy as ever, shot back, âI have enough friends already.
â
Why would she want to be friends with a middle-aged man?
Emil stayed cool.
He whipped out a business card, slid it over, and said, âHey, another friend means more opportunities.
Hereâs my card.
If you ever need a hand in Seamarsh, hit me up anytime.
â
Then he sprang up, settled the tab, and departed.
Flossie and Benny swung by to see Edmund.
A servant guided them to the living room, saying, âHang tight.
Mr.
Hansonâs changing the dressing for his wound, but heâll be with you soon.
â
Coffee was served and the servant made her exit, shutting the door behind her.
A bit later, Edmund strolled out from a nearby room, trailed by another servant.
Seeing Flossie sitting there, Edmund felt like maybe this wasnât just a dream after all.
He reined in his excitement and ordered the nearby servant, âFetch us some cake.
â
He figured girls liked sweet treats.
The servant nodded, and then asked before leaving, âShould I bring the soup that was ready earlier?â
âLater.
Edmund moved over to Flossie, plopping down across from her.
â
âWhat brings you here today? I just asked for cake.
Is there anything else you need? I can have them sort it.
â
He rattled off as he was clearly jittery.
âNothing, thanks,â Flossie declined with a smile.
Edmund seemed much improved.
Flossie breathed a sigh of relief but still had concerns.
âHow are you feeling? Any better?â
Edmund brushed off his injury.
âItâs no biggie.
Donât fret.
â
The conversation hit a snag after that.
After a brief pause, Edmund turned to Flossie.
âThe servant mentioned that the soup was ready.
Do you mind fetching it from the kitchen?â
Flossie, battling against awkwardness, felt relieved to hear that.
She nodded, rose, exited, and shut the door behind her.
Once Flossie left, Edmundâs gentle facade vanished.
He turned to Benny, all serious.
âMatthewâs wedding is around the corner.
Is everything sorted?â
