Chapter 1801
When Love Comes Late
Stella knew Emery referred to Elizabeth and didnât dwell on the comment.
She was unfamiliar with Emery and couldnât figure out her intentions.
Nonetheless, she acknowledged her thoughtfulness, responding, âI see.
Thanks for letting me know.
â
About to walk away, Stella was halted by Emeryâs voice once more, cautioning, âYouâd better be careful.
â
Puzzled, Stella turned back, meeting Emeryâs inscrutable gaze.
âWhat do you mean by that?â
Emery, leaving without a response, merely waved her hand and departed.
Her cryptic comment lingered in Stellaâs mind, puzzling her even as she joined Matthew in the car.
Matthew, noticing her preoccupied look, gently inquired at a red light, âWhatâs on your mind? Is it work-related?â
Stella, snapping out of her reverie, relayed Emeryâs warning to him.
âEmery and I barely know each other, yet she warned me to be cautious around Elizabeth.
What could she mean by that? Elizabeth only arrived at the company today, and nothing significant has occurred yet.
â
Her discomfort was evident.
The conclusion of their project loomed, and Stella hoped for no complications.
Matthew pondered her concerns briefly.
As the traffic light turned green and he resumed driving, he reassured her, âFocus entirely on the project and leave the minor distractions behind.
Iâll pay more attention to anything related to the clothing department.
â
Comforted by his words, Stella relaxed and then brought up another topic.
âWhat about Emery? She used to work for Benny, and though Iâve considered letting her go, she hasnât done anything to warrant dismissal.
â
Matthew responded, devoid of emotion, âEmery has considerable knowledge of the Dorburn market.
Sheâs capable enough to be the market manager right now.
As long as she remains loyal to the company, thereâs no need to dismiss her.
â
Their conversation continued as they approached Bellaâs place.
When the doorbell chimed, Bella swung the door open.
Her eyes widened in surprise at the sight of Stella.
âStella, what brings you here?â
Bella ushered Stella and Matthew inside.
Stella placed a set of health supplements on the table and settled in next to Bella.
Her face etched with worry, she said, âYou mentioned you werenât feeling well.
We were concerned and came right over after work.
â
Bellaâs lips curved into a reassuring smile.
âItâs nothing major, just an old issue acting up.
Iâve been getting headaches and remembering some weird things latelyâ¦â
She waved her hand dismissively.
âProbably just need more rest or maybe itâs the new environment.
Donât worry about it.
â
Stellaâs eyes sparkled with sudden recognition.
Bellaâs symptoms sounded all too familiar.
Maintaining her composure, Stella said, âI used to recall bizarre images too.
My doctor said it was due to memory loss from my car accident.
â
With a hopeful look, she asked, âDid you go through something similar?â
Bella nodded in affirmation.
âYes, I had a car accident a while back.
â
Stellaâs excitement bubbled over, and she squeezed Matthewâs hand in anticipation.
