Chapter 1816
When Love Comes Late
Matthewâs expression grew somber as he continued to console her.
âYouâve handled everything beautifully.
None of this is your fault, so donât be too hard on yourself.
Once Bella understands the whole situation, sheâll see youâre not to blame.
â
As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of a phone ringing cut through the silence.
It was Stellaâs phone.
She picked it up and saw Fernandoâs name on the caller ID.
Taking a deep breath, Stella adjusted her emotions and answered the call.
Fernando was on the line to share the results of his investigation regarding Rylie.
âRylieâs been leading a pretty mundane life lately.
Sheâs been mostly seen at her office and home, but in the past few days, sheâs been frequenting a few luxury stores.
Iâve compiled all the details and sent them over to you.
â
âOkay,â Stella responded coldly, and then ended the call.
She opened the images and messages Fernando had sent.
After reviewing them, a suspicion formed in her mind.
The sudden disappearance of Rylie and the delays in the project seemed too well orchestrated to be coincidental.
Suddenly, Elizabethâs face flashed before her eyes.
She remembered how Elizabeth had always resisted her attempts to meet with Bella, and it struck her that Elizabeth must be connected to
these events.
Matthew quickly made the connection between all the events, and his expression darkened immediately.
âIâll fire Rylie right away,â he declared, reaching for his phone.
âHold on a moment.
â Stella caught his hand, the one clutching the phone.
âI agree that Rylie is untrustworthy, but let me clear up Bellaâs misunderstanding about me first.
â
She paused, sending a quick message to Bella.
The following day, Rylie received her termination notice.
She stormed into the company, demanding answers from Angel.
Slapping her phone displaying the dismissal email on the desk, she raised her voice.
âWhat is this supposed to mean? I havenât done anything wrong.
Why am I being dismissed?â
Angel looked up at her with a detached expression.
âThereâs no point in asking me.
Mr.
Clark made the decision.
If you have any objections, you should take them up with him.
â
Rylieâs face contorted with frustration, her voice cracking.
âEven if Mr.
Clark decided, what of it? I refuse to accept this.
Iâve worked diligently and havenât slipped up once.
Whoever made the decision, you owe me substantial compensation, or Iâll seek legal mediation!â
âIs that so?â
As soon as she finished her words, a cold female voice came from behind.
Rylie turned around and was confronted by Stella.
Staring into Stellaâs icy expression, which hinted at a looming retribution, Rylie felt a wave of panic.
However, she was not ready to meekly accept the possibility of being dismissed.
She argued defiantly, âItâs unjust to fire an employee who hasnât erred without any grounds.
Even Prosperity Group canât just trample over people like that.
I demand an explanation today.
â
Stella nodded, her voice calm.
âI understand your concern, but letâs first determine whether your dismissal was indeed unwarranted.
â
