Chapter 1818
When Love Comes Late
Just as Rylie was about to reveal that Elizabeth was involved, she was cut off by another voice.
Elizabeth entered the room, asking, âWhatâs going on here? Why the noise?â
Rylie met Elizabethâs stern gaze and held back her words.
Elizabeth was visibly distraught.
That morning, Stella had persuaded Bella to come to the office.
Elizabeth wanted to dissuade her but found herself powerless, so she reluctantly accompanied Bella.
She hadnât anticipated Stellaâs underlying motives.
Regaining her composure, Rylie turned to Elizabeth, desperation in her voice.
âElizabeth, youâre finally here.
Mr.
Clark is going to fire me.
Please, you have to help me.
â
Elizabeth inwardly sighed.
Why did Rylie have to drag her into such petty matters?
Her face devoid of emotion, she distanced herself from Rylieâs predicament.
âThatâs a decision from Prosperity Group.
I donât work here, so really, it has nothing to do with me.
â
Before Rylie could respond, Elizabeth cautioned her in a low tone, âRylie, choose your words carefully.
Without proof, your accusations could be considered slander.
Iâd advise you to mind your words.
â
Rylieâs face blanched as she processed Elizabethâs words, her mind racing back to earlier events.
Previously, Elizabeth had treated the staff in the clothing department to a lavish meal and engaged in friendly chats.
Rylie had once casually vented about Stella, which led to more interactions with Elizabeth, including a Luxury shopping spree.
Coming from a modest background, Rylie had never imagined stepping into such exclusive spaces.
During the shopping trip, Elizabeth had even gifted her several designer bags, instantly feeding her sense of pride.
Surrounded by envious glances, Rylie found herself swept up in the allure of her new lifestyle.
Finally, Elizabeth handed Rylie a shopping card that was about to expire.
She then asked for a few days off to experience life as the wealthy did.
As Rylie thought about it, she sensed something amiss.
It appeared that Elizabeth had orchestrated everything from the start, aiming to force Rylie to leave her position temporarily, which would jeopardize Stellaâs project and lead to negative outcomes.
Rylie realized she had been manipulated by Elizabeth!
Now that the truth had come to light, Elizabeth was trying to make her the scapegoat.
Anger flared in Rylie, her eyes reddening as she pointed at Elizabeth and accused her vehemently, âYou did this intentionally! You set me upâ¦â
Turning to Stella, she continued earnestly, âElizabeth purposely gave me that shopping card.
She wanted me to abandon my post during the crucial project phase.
Ms.
Anderson, no, Mrs.
Clark, I was duped by her; otherwise, I would never have made such a mistake! Please, Iâm begging you to give me another chance.
I assure you, this wonât happen again.
â
Elizabeth, confident that Rylie lacked proof, responded nonchalantly, âItâs just a card.
I have plenty of them.
I gave it to you out of pity.
Whatâs the big deal?â
âBut you were the one who approached me first!â Rylie protested, turning to Elizabeth.
âYou came to the clothing department, acting all friendly.
You planned on setting us up from the start, didnât you?â
Elizabeth gave no response, not even glancing in Rylieâs direction.
Rylieâs voice quivered with frustration as she spoke, but Elizabeth remained silent, unmoved by her accusations.
