Chapter 1878
When Love Comes Late
Once inside, Lindsay surveyed the house with a quiet curiosity, her eyes momentarily sparking with interest.
She set the food on the table and casually inquired, âMatthew isnât home?â
Stella, busy pouring water, responded without looking up.
âHe left for the office early today.
â
Lindsay took the glass with a sigh.
âHeâs working so hard.
â
Stella smiled as she handed her the water.
âHeâs got his hands full managing a large company.
Thereâs no downtime for him.
â
âThatâs true,â Lindsay agreed, nodding.
âWith great power comes great responsibility.
â
They sat down to enjoy the desserts Lindsay had brought, which were exquisitely made; even the jelly seemed to dance under the spoonâs touch.
After Stella took a bite of the treat, Lindsayâs eyes sparkled.
Eagerly, she asked, âHow does it taste? Is it good?â
âItâs delicious,â Stella responded warmly.
âWhen did you learn to bake?â
âOh, I picked it up while studying abroad; I was just killing time.
If you like it, I can make more and bring them over,â Lindsay offered modestly.
Seeing her undiminished enthusiasm, Stella smiled and expressed her gratitude.
She then shifted the topic to their main agenda for the day.
âLast night, I found some apartments near Prosperity Group.
I narrowed it down to three good ones.
You can pick whichever you Like best.
â
Handing over the tablet PC to Lindsay, she awaited her response.
Taking the matter of Lindsayâs accommodation seriously, especially after Matthewâs mention of the past the previous day, Stella had chosen the apartments carefully.
They struck the right balance between luxury and comfort.
âThank you, Stella.
â Lindsay briefly looked at the tablet before setting it aside, her expression uneasy.
Sensing Lindsay hesitate to speak, Stella probed gently, âWhatâs on your mind? If there are any concerns, feel free to share them.
â
Lindsay hesitated, and then admitted with a touch of embarrassment, âLast night, Grandma
mentioned how busy you are.
Between your studio and the Prosperity Group project, youâve got a lot on your plate.
I didnât want to impose, so I started looking on my own.
I found a place, but I havenât checked it out in person yet.
â
Surprised, Stella took a moment to reply.
âThatâs not a problem at all.
Itâs important that you Like where you live.
Letâs go check it out together.
If it looks good, we can finalize the paperwork today.
â
Gratefully, Lindsay clasped Stellaâs arm, her eyebrows raised in appreciation.
âThank you, Stella.
Youâre truly kind.
â
When Kristian returned to the room, Bella was sitting on the edge of the bed and crying.
It looked like she was really hurt by Elizabeth.
He thought for a while.
Then, he sat beside her, held her in his arms, and said comfortingly, âIâve sent Elizabeth back to Dorburn.
Donât be angry now.
â
But Bella couldnât calm down at all.
She was disturbed by Elizabethâs questions and accusations.
After being silent for a while, she raised her head, looked at Kristian, and asked again, âWhy did Andrew suddenly come over today? Was it you who helped Elizabeth contact him?â
Bella had cut off Elizabethâs contact with the outside world.
So, the only person who could help her was Kristian.
