Chapter 1880
When Love Comes Late
Kristianâs voice resonated through the phone.
âI wanted to express my gratitude to you and Mr.
Clark for taking care of my wife recently.
Weâd like to extend an invitation for dinner at our home tonight if youâre available.
â
Stella glanced at Lindsay instinctively.
They had plans to visit the apartment today and sign the contract if all went well.
However, she couldnât simply send Lindsay home afterward; she needed to ensure she was familiar with the surrounding area.
Uncertain of their timing, Stella hesitated for a moment before politely declining Kristianâs invitation.
âIâm terribly sorry.
I have some pressing matters to attend to at home tonight.
Perhaps we could visit you and Bella tomorrow?â
âItâs not a problem at all.
We have some free time lately, so feel free to visit whenever suits you,â Kristian responded understandingly.
After bidding him farewell, Stella ended the call.
Lindsay, having overheard their conversation, expressed her guilt.
âs BunnyBookery
âStella, did I disrupt your plans? I should have informed you earlier,â she said apologetically.
Stella waved off her concerns with a reassuring smile.
âItâs not urgent.
Besides, I promised you last night that Iâd accompany you to find an apartment.
You donât need to apologize.
â
Lindsay nodded, and then ventured, âI overheard you mentioning Bella.
Do you two have a close relationship?â
Stella, wary of delving into the topic of Bella, offered a vague response.
âWe have some common ground, and we interact frequently due to work.
â
âI see,â Lindsay acknowledged with a gentle smile.
âI recall there hasnât been any update about Bella naming a successor for her studio.
It seems like that role might be destined for you, doesnât it?â
Stella merely smiled, choosing not to comment further on the matter.
Coincidentally, they had arrived at their destination, so the conversation naturally concluded.
Exiting the car, Stella and Lindsay contacted the landlord and proceeded to view the apartment together.
The space was modest, comprising one bedroom and a living room, yet it boasted tasteful decor.
Situated near Prosperity Group, it offered convenient access to work.
Lindsay appeared content with the place.
After a momentâs contemplation, Stella expressed her thoughts.
âWhile this is nice, itâs a bit small.
Let me find you a larger place so you can live more comfortably.
â
Lindsay waved off Stellaâs concern, asserting, âNo, Iâll be fine living alone.
This is sufficient for me.
â
Stella tried to persuade Lindsay otherwise.
Lindsay bowed her head slightly and confided, âThough I grew up in the Clark family, Iâm not related to them by blood.
Iâve relied on Grandmaâs affection for me.
Now that Iâve graduated, I want to stand on my own and care for Grandpa and Grandma with my own abilities.
â
Sensing Lindsayâs emotions rising, Stella sought to reassure her.
âDonât think Like that.
Waldo and Lucia adore you and consider you their own granddaughter.
The entire family sees you as one of their own.
â
âI know, and Iâm grateful for that,â Lindsay acknowledged, her voice quivering.
âBut I canât be selfish.
