Chapter 1921
When Love Comes Late
After Lindsay entered the room, Stella turned to Miley and said, âLook, youâve been so paranoid lately, itâs starting to rub off on me.
â
Miley frowned in response.
âDonât you find her a bit odd, though?â
âWhy?â Stella offered a dismissive smile.
âSheâs just trying to be pleasant.
Lindsay grew up in the Clark family; sheâs sensitive and considerate.
Whatâs wrong with that? Besides, if she had ulterior motives, why would she move out voluntarily?â
She posed these questions more to herself than to Miley, not really expecting an answer.
Glancing at her watch, Stella realized she was running late.
She grabbed her food container and headed for the door.
âIâm off to the hospital.
I almost forgot what I was supposed to do today because of this conversation.
â
Miley followed her out, her tone stubborn.
âDonât let her innocent act fool you.
Thereâs something off about Lindsay.
She might look pure and kind, but smart people know how to play to their strengths.
She acts sweet around you, but who knows what sheâs really planning?â
As Stella got into the car, she reassured her, âDonât worry.
Although Matthew is a catch, heâs also married.
Not everyone is interested in a married man.
â
Miley curled her lip.
âNot everyone is as principled as you.
Matthewâs wealthy and attractive; many young women want to get close to someone like him.
Youâre too trusting.
Be careful, or you might end up regretting it.
Stella found Mileyâs concern excessive but appreciated her intent.
Smiling, she said, âI know you mean well.
Thanks for your help today.
â
Miley snorted and said, âThatâs more like it.
â
Wanting to steer away from the topic of Lindsay, Stella changed the subject.
âWhat are your plans later? I can give you a lift.
â
Miley waved her off.
âDonât worry about me.
If you have time, why donât you invite your mom? We could all have dinner together.
Iâd love to meet her.
â
Stella smiled warmly.
âNo problem.
Weâll arrange it when everyoneâs free.
â
Meanwhile, upstairs, Lindsay stood by the window, observing Miley and Stella below.
She had been a bit too far from them earlier to hear their conversation clearly.
Yet, she could keenly sense Mileyâs dislike for her, feeling as though she was being tested.
Lindsay suspected that Miley and Stella had been speaking ill of her.
She was still holding the lipstick that Miley had returned to her.
Recalling Mileyâs earlier remarks, Lindsay couldnât help but sneer.
She hadnât expected Stella to have such a perceptive friend, but it was insignificant.
Stella had just arrived at Bellaâs hospital ward, which she found surprisingly empty.
She placed the food container on the table and asked subconsciously, âWhy are you alone here?â
Bella responded, âKristian had some other matters to attend to.
He just left.
â
âI seeâ¦â Stella murmured, her mind not really on Kristianâs whereabouts.
She felt a sense of relief at not having to face him just yet.
She ladled Bella a bowl of soup but hesitated, unsure how to address her.
