Chapter 1929
When Love Comes Late
Emery glanced at the private room in front of her and replied honestly, âIâm having dinner with my friends.
â
Curiosity sparked, she stood on tiptoe to peer behind Emil.
âWho was that person you were just talking to? He looked familiar.
â
She frowned, trying to place the face but came up empty.
Emil had no intention of explaining his meeting with Kristian to a young girt.
With a playful smile, he rubbed her nose.
âCanât I have dinner with my friends too?â
Emery touched her nose, pouted, and smiled.
âI didnât say you couldnât.
But I know most of your friends, and Iâve never seen him before.
Iâm worried about you making bad friends.
â
As Emery pondered, the manâs face suddenly aligned with an image in her memory.
âI remember now!â she exclaimed, clapping her hands.
âThat man Looks like Stellaâs father, Kristian.
â
Emil hadnât expected her to recognize Kristian.
âYou know him?â he asked, surprised.
âNot really,â Emery admitted.
âAfter Bella announced her relationship with Stella a few days ago, the employees at Prosperity Group were buzzing about Stellaâs background.
I saw a photo of Kristian when my colleagues were gossiping.
â
Emery looked at Emil with confusion.
âDad, why are you in touch with Stellaâs father? When did you two become friends?â
Emil, not wanting her to know too much, feigned anger.
âYouâre just a child.
Donât get involved in adult business.
Focus on your work at Prosperity Group.
â
Emery stared at him with dissatisfaction.
âWhy are you being so mean? I was just asking.
Are you hiding something from me?â
Feeling helpless under his daughterâs reproachful gaze, Emil softened his tone.
âWell, just go home.
Donât keep your friends waiting.
â
Emery was certain he was hiding something.
Just as she was about to ask more questions, one of her
friends found her.
âIâve been wondering where you were.
Why are you standing here? Weâre all waiting for you.
â Emeryâs friend approached and greeted Emil politely.
After exchanging pleasantries, Emil turned to Emery.
âGo enjoy your time with your friends.
I should be on my way.
â
Emery, momentarily interrupted, missed her chance to inquire further about Emilâs earlier encounter.
She replayed the scene in her mind, trying to make sense of it but was soon led away by her friend.
âYour dad is long gone.
Whatâs on your mind?â her friend asked with a smile.
âI didnât realize you were so attached to him.
â
Back in the private room, the group engaged in playful banter, and Emery soon forgot her earlier concerns.
Meanwhile, Stella had plans to meet Bella but was interrupted by an unexpected call from Alissa.
Alissaâs gentle voice flowed through the receiver.
âStella, if youâre free today, come over.
I have something for you.
â
Noting that Bellaâs house was on the way to Alissaâs, Stella decided to visit Alissa first.
âIâll be there soon,â she responded without hesitation.
