Chapter 1936
When Love Comes Late
Stella recounted truthfully, âShe shared some embroidery works brought by her student from abroad.
I spent some time going through them.
It was quite detailed.
â
She gestured for Matthew to come closer as she helped him loosen his tie.
âThen I took Alissa to Momâs house for lunch.
â
âOh?â Matthew raised an eyebrow.
âSounds like you all had a great time.
â
âAbsolutely.
â Stella nodded enthusiastically.
âAlissa and Mom really hit it off.
I think theyâll be good friends.
â
She beamed with happiness, and Matthew mirrored her smile, saying, âThatâs wonderful.
Bella doesnât have many friends here in Seamarsh.
Alissa is a renowned embroiderer and Bella is a famous designer.
They have a lot in common.
â
âYes,â Stella replied with a smile.
Suddenly, another thought crossed her mind, and she changed the subject.
âToday, Alissa mentioned that I donât resemble Kristian or Bella at all.
If it werenât for the DNA test report, I would find it hard to believe Iâm their daughter.
â
She touched her face with a hint of sadness.
The reason she had been so sure that Haley was her biological mother was because they looked so alike.
Seeing the distress on Stellaâs face, Matthew reassured her, âLooks arenât everything.
Children donât always resemble their parents.
We should trust in science.
â
Stella nodded in acknowledgment.
She lay back on the bed and continued, âYouâre right, but I canât shake the feeling that I might resemble Mom before the accident.
When I have the chance, Iâll ask her for photos from before then.
I want to see what she looked like back then.
â
Matthew remained silent as Stella spoke.
Just as she was about to drift off to sleep, she suddenly sat back up, startling Matthew.
âWhatâs wrong?â he asked, concerned by her sudden movement.
Stella spoke seriously.
âAlissa mentioned a name when she saw Kristian today.
Ethan Vance, yes.
Kristian seemed stunned when she said it.
â
She had been preoccupied with it earlier in the day but got distracted with other tasks and a long chat with Miley in the afternoon, nearly forgetting about it.
Listening attentively, Matthew responded thoughtfully, âDid Alissa say anything more about it?â
Stella shook her head, her expression troubled.
âNot really.
She called Kristian âEthanâ firmly, but when he denied it, she admitted she might have confused him with someone else.
I tried asking her again on the way back home, but she didnât elaborate.
I think it was just a mistake.
â
Stella sighed, feeling unsettled by the memory.
Matthew pondered for a moment.
Seeing the seriousness in Stellaâs eyes, he reassured her, âPerhaps it was just a mix-up.
Try not to dwell on it too much.
If youâre tired, go to bed.
â
Stella nodded, realizing that dwelling on it wouldnât help.
She quickly pushed it from her mind and drifted off to sleep.
After Stella had fallen asleep, Matthewâs expression darkened.
He stood up and sent a message to Neville, âWhile youâre investigating Kristian, also look into someone named Ethan Vance.
â
Neville wrapped up his investigation swiftly.
By the next day, he had already made his way to Prosperity Group, carrying the investigation results with him.
He placed the document in front of Matthew, his tone slightly perplexed.
âInvestigating Kristian proved challenging, but Ethan was a simpler case.
Heâs just a regular guy with no notable background.
Whatâs your interest in him?â
