Chapter 1938
When Love Comes Late
With those words, she made to leave, but Neville, halfâjoking, called out, âLetâs grab dinner sometime when youâre free.
â
Lindsay gave a polite nod in response.
As she exited, Matthew caught Nevilleâs gaze lingering on Lindsay.
Raising an eyebrow, he remarked coldly, âAsking her out so quickly? Arenât you worried Miley might get jealous?â
Taking a sip of his coffee, Neville chuckled lightly.
âI was merely being courteous.
Besides, Miley isnât the type to get jealous over such trivial matters.
But youâ¦â
His eyes twinkled mischievously as he set down his cup.
âLindsay once saved your life, yet here she is, working almost like a waitress at Prosperity Group.
Doesnât that seem a bit ungrateful?â
Matthew, unfazed, pulled out a document and responded, âItâs her choice, not mine.
â
Neville pressed him further, âSo you just agreed to it? Does Stella even know about this?â
Matthew looked up, meeting Nevilleâs gaze.
âAbsolutely.
We donât keep secrets from each other.
â
Nevilleâs voice dropped to a whisper, almost as if he were afraid.
âDid you tell Stella about how Lindsay saved your life?â
Matthew nodded slightly, affirming Nevilleâs words.
Undeterred, Neville went on, âAnd does Stella know about your grandmotherâs wish for you to marry Lindsay?â
At this, Matthewâs expression darkened, and he frowned.
He shot Neville a warning look.
âEnough with the nonsense.
â
Yet, Neville, enjoying the drama, grinned and teased, âIf itâs really nonsense, why does it bother you so much? Someone surely hasnât forgotten about it, right?â
Matthewâs patience thinned.
âDo you have anything else to say? If not, I think itâs time you left.
Neville feigned a wounded heart.
âHow can you be so cold? To just discard me after Iâve served my purpose?â
Matthewâs expression darkened.
Seeing that Matthew couldnât take it anymore, Neville quickly gave in.
âAlright, Iâll leave now.
â
With a dismissive snort, Matthew turned back to the document in his hands.
Neville rose from his chair, and as he turned to leave, he couldnât resist offering a piece of advice.
âJust a heads-up, you might want to clear things up with your wife beforehand.
If she finds out from someone else and gets jealous, youâll find yourself running out of room to explain.
â
He hurried out of the office without glancing back at Matthewâs reaction.
Matthew tried to focus on the document, but Nevilleâs final words echoed in his head.
