Chapter 1942
When Love Comes Late
Twenty million?
The price was insane!
Under the scrutinizing gaze of the onlookers, Joannâs face burned with embarrassment.
How could she have known? It was just a few pearls, and whatever money she had on her card was her hard-earned savings.
Joann didnât want to be embarrassed in front of so many people, but she had no more money.
When Miley entered the store and saw the three women, she quietly asked Stella, âDo you know them?â
Stella shook her head subtly, choosing not to elaborate.
Instead, she turned to Joann and asked directly, âCan you still make with the payment? If not, Iâm happy to cover it.
â
Joann had already committed to paying for the jewelry.
If she backed out now, it would be a blow to her pride.
She took a deep breath and said, âOf course! But I only have this card with me today.
Just wait a moment.
Iâll call someone to bring a different card right away.
â
Then she took out her phone and called Bennett, but the call was immediately rejected.
The next second, she received a message, which read, âIâm in a meeting.
Whatâs up?â
His response was curt and distant.
Normally, Joann wouldnât have been bothered, but facing Stella now, she couldnât shake off her frustration.
She lowered her head and sent another message to Bennett, only to receive no reply this time.
Seeing Joannâs futile attempt, Stella indifferently said, âItâs alright if you canât afford it.
My time is very precious, so please stop wasting it.
â
She handed her card to the shop assistant and added, âBut I still advise you to know your capabilities before doing something Like this again.
â
Her words felt like a slap to Joannâs face.
She was so angry she could hardly breathe.
âWhy are you so proud of yourself? You can only afford it because of Matthewâs money.
Youâre not as high and mighty as you think!â
Miley could clearly tell that Joann was here to stir up trouble.
Unable to stand it any longer, she was about to speak up for Stella when she was stopped.
Stella corrected Joann, âNot every woman is like you.
Many of us can afford our own jewelry without relying on men.
â
As the expression on Joannâs face suddenly changed, Stella added indifferently, âAnd so what if I do spend Matthewâs money? He is my husband, and his money is my money.
We donât just share a bed; we share a life.
Youâll understand what I mean when youâre married.
â
Joann seethed with anger, her face ablaze with fury at Stellaâs cutting words.
Finally finding her voice, she uttered, âShame on you!â
Never did she expect such a response from Stella.
Yet, the undeniable truth was that she and Matthew were indeed a couple, leaving Joann without a retort.
