Chapter 1952
When Love Comes Late
Glancing at Joann, Bennett took the lead and apologized, âIâm sorry, Nikolai.
Itâs Joannâs mistake.
I apologize on her behalf.
Please forgive us.
â
Nikolai responded without emotion, âItâs her issue.
You donât need to apologize for her.
I simply donât want her wearing a fake dress and associating it with me.
Today is an important occasion.
She doesnât need to say sorry.
Just change the dress, and we can move on.
â
Bennett nodded in understanding of Nikolaiâs thoughts.
Turning to Joann with a stern tone, he said, âJust do what Nikolai suggested and change the dress.
â
Joann looked at him sadly and protested, âI canâtâ¦â
âItâs your special day today.
You should be happy,â Lindsay interjected, feigning kindness.
She held Joannâs hand and added, âI have an extra dress.
Letâs change into it.
Itâs just as beautiful.
â
Initially resistant, Joann didnât want to give in.
However, seeing Bennettâs growing impatience, she feared his anger if she persisted.
Reluctantly, she bit her lip and conceded, âAlright.
â
She reluctantly went along with Lindsay.
Bennett apologized to Nikolai once more, saying, âI apologize for the inconvenience.
Joann can be quite stubborn.
â
Nikolai and Bennett had been childhood friends, but their contact had waned after the Lowell family moved overseas.
Nikolai had heard rumors about how Joann had hooked up with Bennett.
Now, witnessing Joannâs unreasonable behavior firsthand, he couldnât bear to see Bennett spend his life with someone like her.
In a quiet tone, he advised Bennett, âSomeone like Joann isnât right for you.
It might be best to end things before you officially get engaged, to prevent future complications for your family.
â
Bennett remained silent.
Nikolai didnât press further, just gave Bennett a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
Once Bennett departed, Nikolai winked at Matthew and approached him, saying, âYou owe me a favor.
â
Then he left.
Matthew arrived late and wasnât fully informed, but after pondering for a moment, he pieced together the situation and understood Nikolaiâs meaning.
His expression darkened slightly.
Feeling that Stella had been treated unfairly, he questioned her, âDid they bully you?â
Stella was momentarily taken aback before understanding his inquiry.
She proceeded to recount the entire incident to him.
After finishing, she shrugged and remarked, âI didnât really suffer any harm, but I think Joann probably hates me now.
Luckily, after todayâs engagement party, I wonât have to see her again.
â
In the lounge, Joann slipped into an extra dress she had packed.
