Chapter 2000
When Love Comes Late
Bennett, who usually maintained his composure, now let his anger flare.
His face turned crimson as he exclaimed, âDonât obstruct me.
I need to see Matthew now!â
Erin didnât budge.
âSir, if you persist with this behavior, I will be forced to call security.
â
Bennett, unable to overpower Erinâs resolve, shouted, âMatthew, if you have any courage, come out here! Why did you pull back the rescue team? Donât you deeply care about Stella? Why abandon your efforts so swiftly?â
Erin managed to hold her position at the gate, yet Bennett continued his cold accusations.
âShe is your wife, not a mere acquaintance.
How can you so easily let go? Do you honestly believe she is gone just like that?â
Upstairs, Matthewâs frequent frowns reflected his irritation at Bennettâs uncontrolled demeanor.
Unaware of the tension, Stella inquired on the other side of the phone, âWhat are you up to? Are you occupied? We can speak later if youâre busy.
â
Choosing not to reveal the turmoil below, Matthew responded with a tender smile, âIâm just missing you.
â
Stella felt a blush creep up her cheeks.
âWhy would you say that all of a sudden? Iâll be home soon.
â
âI havenât seen you in ages.
I miss you immensely,â Matthew whispered softly.
The warmth spread to Stellaâs ears.
She regained her composure and changed the subject.
âHow long will it take to settle everything? We canât continue hiding.
Mom has started to pick up on things.
The gravity of this matter worries me.
I donât know how much longer I can keep this hidden.
â
She voiced her concerns with a slight tremor.
Recalling a conversation with Kristian recently, Matthew offered reassurance.
âI will resolve it as quickly as I can.
â
Downstairs, Erin and a bodyguard were struggling to restrain Bennett, who was determined to force his way in.
Matthewâs expression darkened further.
He spoke to Stella.
âI need to address an urgent issue here.
Iâll call you back later.
â
After hanging up, Matthew left the study.
As he descended the stairs, Bennett made his way into the living room.
Both men faced each other with grim expressions, their eyes locked in a silent standoff.
The atmosphere was thick with tension, hinting at the brewing conflict.
The atmosphere grew palpably strange, prompting the bodyguard to position himself between Matthew and Bennett.
âYou finally show yourself.
I thought youâd keep hiding forever,â
Bennett stated icily.
Matthew returned a frosty look and inquired, âWhy are you here? Stella is my wife, and she has no ties to the Lowell family.
â
Bennett found himself at a loss for words.
At that moment, Joann entered.
