Chapter 2001
When Love Comes Late
Sensing the mounting tension between Bennett and Matthew, she quickly grasped Bennettâs hand.
âCome home with me.
Even her own husband isnât worried.
Why should you be so concerned as an outsider? Letâs leave!â
Bennett coldly shrugged off her hand.
âIf you want to leave, go ahead.
I still have things to discuss.
â
Joannâs face fell, her lips quivering as she struggled to speak, fearing Bennettâs disregard.
Her anxiety was so intense that tears welled up in her eyes.
Matthew looked over at Joann and scoffed, saying, âMr.
Lowell, perhaps you should attend to your own family matters before meddling in othersâ.
â
Joann, having harbored feelings for Bennett for years, couldnât tolerate any slight against him, even from Matthew.
She retorted softly, âBennett is here out of concern for your family.
Mr.
Clark, your lack of gratitude is appalling! No wonder Stella isâ¦â
âEnough!â
Both Matthew and Bennett cut her off simultaneously.
Joann stamped her foot, frustrated, believing she had said nothing out of Line.
Matthewâs patience had evaporated,
his face marked by irritation.
His respect for the visitors had vanished.
âWiLL you leave on your own, or must I call security?â Matthew glared at them, his tone brimming with discontent.
âMaybe youâve given up on looking for Stella, but I wonât.
Iâll find her myself,â Bennett said with a dark face.
Then, he spun around and left.
Joannâs complexion appeared unusually somber.
She had spoken up for Bennett, but her efforts went unappreciated.
He didnât glance her way, leaving her to confront Matthew alone.
Bennettâs indifference left Joann feeling deeply saddened.
However, upon seeing the stern look on Matthewâs face, she restrained her discontent.
Fear was all she felt.
She had no option but to follow Bennett.
As Bennett was about to close the car door, Joann instinctively reached out to stop him.
Unfortunately, Bennett moved quickly, causing Joann to be injured by the door.
âOuch!â Joann screamed in pain and pulled her hand back.
Looking into Bennettâs eyes, she saw nothing but impatience.
He showed no remorse.
Joann felt as if a cold wind had swept through her heart.
She stared at Bennett, the man she had loved for years, feeling both angry and wronged.
âBennett! Do you realize what you are doing? Stella is Matthewâs wife.
You shouldnât be involved with her.
Iâm your fiancée.
How can you treat me like this?â
âYou donât need to remind me.
I am aware of that.
â
