Chapter 2002
When Love Comes Late
Bennettâs eyes lacked any warmth, sending a chill deep into her heart.
Bennett then corrected her.
âThereâs another point.
Remember, our engagement is over.
Iâm no longer connected to you.
Miss Crawford, please stop thinking of yourself as my fiancée and maintain some dignity.
â
Joann stared at the man before her, unable to believe what she was seeing.
He had always been kind and well-mannered in her memories, but now Bennett was so distant and cold, she could barely recognize him.
She couldnât grasp how things had come to this point.
Bennett had only met Stella once.
Why did he suddenly take her side?
He even went as far as upsetting Matthew because of her.
Joann had given so much for him, her love included.
However, he abandoned her just like that.
Joann couldnât understand why she wasnât as appealing as Stella in Bennettâs eyes.
Overwhelmed with emotion, she shouted, âYou fell in love with Stella, didnât you? Even if Stella were still alive, you couldnât take her from Matthew.
â
Bennett responded with indifference, âWhatever you say.
â
Tears formed in Joannâs eyes.
Determined not to give up, she asked, âBennett, do you even have a heart? I love you the most! Why would you treat me this way? Stella⦠Whatâs so special about her?â
Bennett did not wish to discuss his feelings for Stella, maintaining a cold tone.
âIs that enough? If so, move.
I need to drive.
â
Joann looked at Bennettâs cold manner, feeling deep pain from his indifference.
âBennett, why must you treat me this way? We were nearly married.
â
Without even glancing her way, Bennett replied, âYou know exactly how you got that chance.
Why bring up such pointless matters now?â
With those words, Bennett shove
d her aside, slammed the door shut, and drove off without hesitation.
âBennett!â Joannâs eyes filled with tears.
She tried to follow the car, but her legs couldnât keep up.
She stumbled and fell to the ground.
She attempted to push herself up, but pain shot through her hand, caught by the car door a moment ago, making it impossible for her to stand.
Her shoulders shook as anger built within her.
She blamed Stella for everything.
If Stella hadnât come into their lives, Bennett wouldnât have treated her with such cruelty.
Stella had charmed him from the start!
Now that Stella was gone, she found herself without anyone to direct her anger toward.
Joann lifted her gaze to the heavens, clenched her teeth, and shouted, âStella, you heartless wretch! Even in death, you disturb the peace of others.
â
