Chapter 2007
When Love Comes Late
the lawyer beforehand.
Once I arrive, weâll sort out the paperwork straight away.
That way, youâll see Iâm on your side.
Agreed?â
After a moment of contemplation, Elizabeth responded with a stern warning.
âYou better not be scheming anything.
You know how much I detest being deceived.
If I catch even a hint of treachery, Iâll make sure you regret it.
â
Her interests were clear: money and a comfortable life.
Family ties and parental affection held no value to her.
A fleeting chill crossed Kristianâs gaze, but he masked it with a feigned warmth.
âNo worries at all.
Weâre family, after all.
Iâll look after you.
Donât overthink things.
Weâll split everything down the middle.
â
Elizabeth gave a dismissive snort.
Patiently, Kristian secured the next available flight and arranged for someone to escort her to the airport.
As Elizabeth climbed into the car and departed, the facade of Kristianâs smile vanished, his face hardening as sobriety fully returned.
He watched the car pull away with a scowl.
âDamn it,â he muttered under his breath.
The arrival of Elizabeth had been an unwelcome reminder of an ongoing issue.
This fool, who had previously contributed nothing, now threatened his stability and eyed half of his hard-earned fortune.
Such delusional thinking.
Kristianâs gaze grew colder.
He resolved that Elizabeth needed to be dealt with swiftly.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Matthew received an update from Neville.
In a grave tone, Neville reported, âElizabeth has made her way back to Seamarsh.
â
With a steely tone, Neville continued, âMy contact in Dorburn discovered that Elizabeth had covertly returned to Seamarsh
.
The moment she disembarked from the plane, she sought out Kristian.
They are treading very carefully.
I have no idea what they discussed.
After their rendezvous, Elizabeth got into a car and left, apparently heading to the airport.
I suspect she is returning to Dorburn.
â
Matthew absorbed this in silence for a beat.
As far as the public was concerned, Bella and Stella were deceased.
Elizabethâs abrupt return from Dorburn had to be tied to this situation.
âWhatâs our next move? Should we just let Elizabeth slip away?â
Neville asked.
Matthew didnât respond right away.
Kristian was a wily old fox.
He never engaged in pointless actions.
His rush to send Elizabeth off had to mean something.
After a brief contemplation, Matthew murmured, âStop Elizabeth and take her to Basement No.
7.
â
âBasement No.
7?â Neville was taken aback.
