Chapter 2010
When Love Comes Late
As she cursed and wept, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed in the confined space.
âAre you the one who brought me here?â She strained to see through the blindfold.
Matthew stood before her, his expression cold and indifferent.
âWhy did you come to see Kristian?â Fernandoâs voice cut through the silence.
Fear and her Limited interaction with Fernando made it difficult for Elizabeth to recognize the speaker.
She forced a calm exterior.
âKristian is my father.
Why canât I visit him?â
A flicker of relief ignited within her.
These people werenât Kristianâs men.
She began regaining a bit of confidence.
âMy father wonât let you go when he finds out.
Youâll regret crossing him.
Let me go now.
â
As she rambled, she sensed someone drawing closer to her.
Her heart pounded in her chest.
Then, something cold and wet brushed against her face.
âAh!â A shriek erupted from her throat.
Her body stiffened with terror.
âWhat⦠whatâs that? Donât play games with me, or youâll regret it!â
However, Fernando was unimpressed by her bravado.
His voice was ice as he replied, âStop wasting time.
Iâll give you one more chance to confess before I have my men release this snake.
â
Snake? The word sent a chill down Elizabethâs spine.
Terror seized her, and her body trembled uncontrollably.
Fernando didnât give her a moment to collect herself.
âI will count to three.
If you donât confess, blame yourself for what m
ight happen.
Now, one, twoâ¦â
Panic closed in around Elizabeth.
Her lips were clamped shut, her mind racing.
âDo it!â Fernando barked.
Elizabethâs final defense line crumbled.
She shook her head frantically.
âNo, Iâll speak! Iâll tell you everything!â
The following day began with no information about Stella and Bellaâs location.
A grim realization settled in the hearts of everyoneâthe two were presumed lost forever.
Nevertheless, Matthew held onto the hope that Stella and Bella were merely missing, his heart unwilling to accept their passing.
To those around him, Matthewâs belief stemmed from his deep affection for his wife, a futile denial of the harsh truth.
Meanwhile, Kristian met with his attorney, Rodney Hinks.
The previous night, he had deceived Elizabeth into returning to Dorburn, ensuring Rodneyâs timely presence in Seamarsh.
Elizabethâs reaction upon discovering the deceit in Dorburn was of no concern to Kristian.
His sole focus was on the property transfer documents Rodney had prepared.
Signing them would transfer all of Bellaâs assets to him.
