Chapter 2024
When Love Comes Late
âYouâve handled this well.
Thankfully, your foresight prevented anything worse from happening.
â
Matthew acknowledged the compliment with a subtle nod, his expression serious.
âWhat about Kristian?â Waldo asked, his tone laced with worry.
âMake sure he canât cause any more problems.
â
âIâve taken care of it.
â
Waldo, trusting in his grandsonâs judgment, didnât press further.
âAs long as you know what youâre doing,â he said, his voice reflecting a mix of relief and resignation.
With the conversation concluded, Matthew excused himself from the study.
As he closed the door behind him, he noticed Lindsay exiting Luciaâs room.
Without a word or a glance, he passed by her, his focus elsewhere.
âMatthew,â Lindsay called out, her voice tinged with urgency as she bit her lip.
Matthew didnât stop walking, but Lindsay quickly trotted to catch up and blocked his path, forcing him to halt.
His frown deepened at her interruption.
âIâm sorry, Matthew.
I didnât mean to let Grandma find out,â Lindsay said, her tone full of apology.
Matthewâs response was icy.
âYou know perfectly well whether it was intentional or not.
â
He then shifted to a more formal tone, emphasizing his point.
âIf Iâm not mistaken, you should be at work now.
Being at home during working hours without a valid reason is against company policy.
Next time, it will be handled according to the rules.
â
Lindsayâs expression stiffened as she hurriedly tried to justify her presence.
âGrandma asked me to come today.
She said she had questions
â¦â
Matthew, however, was in no mood to linger on the discussion.
He turned away, resuming his path, dismissing her explanation.
Behind him, Lindsayâs frustration boiled over.
She clenched her fists, watching his retreating back.
With a mix of hurt and defiance in her voice, she said, âMatthew, is it because Stella doesnât like me that you donât see me as part of the Clark family anymore?â
Without turning around, Matthew said clearly, âStay honest and righteous, and youâll always be Grandmaâs adopted granddaughter.
â
After saying this, he walked away.
Lindsay bit her lower lip, understanding the deeper meaning in Matthewâs words.
He acknowledged her only as Luciaâs adopted granddaughter, not as a Clark family member, and he clearly wanted nothing to do with her.
Clearly, Matthew was distancing himself from her, and Stella was to blame!
Watching Matthewâs back with hatred, Lindsayâs anger toward Stella grew even stronger.
