Chapter 2029
When Love Comes Late
Stella didnât notice the slight change in his expression.
She turned around, glanced at Bella, and then looked back at him.
âHas Alissa known about her connection with Bella?â
Matthew shook his head slightly and explained, âI was planning to wait until Bella returned to tell her the truth about her real identity.
Then let her decide whether to rekindle her friendship with Alissa.
But now, things have changed and Bella is still unconscious.
When she wakes up, sheâll decide for herself.
â
Stella nodded and said, âItâs really up to them.
We shouldnât interfere.
Besides, Bellaâs memory isnât fully clear, so her feelings for Alissa arenât what they used to be.
If Alissa learns everything too soon, it could complicate things for everyone.
â
Stella then recalled Alissa unwittingly revealing sensitive information about her best friendâs past and husband.
She murmured, âBut Alissa should at least know who my real father is.
â
While Stella had always been curious about her parents, now was not the time to delve into it.
She simply wanted her family to be safe.
Matthew squeezed her hand and advised, âLetâs not dwell on that.
Right now, we need to focus on Bella waking up.
â
Stella nodded, feeling a mix of emotions but choosing to keep them hidden.
Matthew sighed internally.
His investigations into Kristian had helped him piece together some of the past.
He suspected Stellaâs father must have died, and the circumstances back then were probably harsh.
He preferred Stella not to keep digging for more answers.
The next morning, Stella woke abruptly from her sleep.
She sprang up, relieved to find Bella sleeping soundly in the bed next to hers.
Matthew was not in the hospital room.
Stella remembered talking with him before she fell asleep.
After gathering herself, she stepped outside and asked a bodyguard, âDid Matthew leave?â
The bodyguard nodded slightly.
âMr.
Clark left early today, but he didnât mention where he was going.
He just instructed us to stay here.
â
Stella acknowledged this, glanced back at the still unconscious Bella, and said to the bodyguard, âOkay, please keep watching over my mom.
Iâm going to get some breakfast.
â
The bodyguard quickly said, âI can get it for you.
â
Stella shook her head and said, âNo, Iâll handle it.
I know what Matthew likes.
â
Knowing Matthew had been swamped with matters related to her, Stella wanted to pick up his favorite breakfast as a small gesture of appreciation.
The bodyguard reluctantly agreed to stay.
Stella handed her phone number to the bodyguard, instructing, âIf my mom starts to wake up, call me right away.
â
The bodyguard, still uneasy, suggested, âThere are enough of us here.
Shouldnât I accompany you?â
Stella smiled, reassuring him, âThank you, but Iâll be fine on my own.
The people who might want to hurt me are no longer around.
I can leave without worry knowing youâre here with my mom.
â
The bodyguard accepted her decision.
Stella then left the room by herself.
As she exited the hospital, she was surprised to see Bennett stepping out of a car.
She was astonished that he had come personally.
