Chapter 2041
When Love Comes Late
ut Bennett shook his head.
âNo, itâs not like that.
I just met someone who made me see Joann differently.
â
He avoided mentioning Stella further and looked earnestly at Byron.
âGrandpa, after a lot of reflection, for our familyâs sake, I canât bring Joann into our lives.
I hope you can understand and respect my decision.
â
Bennettâs tone grew cold as he recalled Joannâs recent outburst.
Observing Bennettâs firm resolve, Byron sighed deeply.
âYouâre not like your father.
Youâre more like your uncle.
You both always knew your own minds.
We couldnât sway your uncle back in the day, and now that Iâm old, I wonât try to sway you.
Just be sure this is what you truly want.
â
Bennett nodded with conviction.
âGrandpa, donât worry.
Iâve got everything under control.
â
As they were talking, a loud crash came from upstairs.
Bennett and Byron looked at each other with concern.
Byron tried to get up using his cane, but Bennett quickly reassured him, saying, âItâs probably just the servant being clumsy and dropping something.
Iâll go check it out.
â
Bennett hurried upstairs and found a servant hastily cleaning up after accidentally dropping an iron box.
Kyra Lowell, Bennettâs grandmother, scolded with a frown, âHow could you be so careless? These are all my sonâs cherished belongings.
If anything is broken, you will be held responsible.
â
The servant was profuse
ly apologetic, saying, âIâm terribly sorry, maâam.
It was an accident.
â
Seeing that it was just an accident, Bennett felt relieved.
He approached Kyra, trying to calm her.
âGrandma, it was just a mishap.
Please, donât be upset.
â
As he helped Kyra to sit down, Bennett noticed a faded photograph on the floor.
The photograph had yellowed with age, showing his uncle clearly, but the woman beside him was just a blur.
As he picked up the photograph to hand it to the servant, he saw some writing on the back.
Since the photo got wet, the words written on the back of it were all soggy and blurry.
Even the womanâs mame could not be seen clearly.
Only the first three letters âAarâ were recognizable.
It must have been Bennettâs uncle and the womanâs first picture together.
After all, the love notes on the back were filled with sweetness.
The maid had already tidied up everything.
The only thing left was the photo in Bennettâs hand.
She wanted to take it back, so she said tentatively, âMr.
Lowell, the photo in your handâ¦â
Bennett handed her the photo, stood up, and helped Kyra out.
He asked, âGrandma, why did you suddenly think of cleaning Uncleâs room?â
Kyra lowered her head and answered, âIâve been dreaming of your uncle a lot lately, so I thought Iâd have someone clean his room.
He always liked things neat.
If he ever comes back and sees dust everywhere, heâd be upset for ages.
â
When Bennett heard this, he felt a twinge in his heart.
He didnât want to shatter his grandmotherâs hopes, so he just listened quietly.
He also said a word or two from time to time.
