Chapter 2055
When Love Comes Late
The front gate shut firmly behind her, making a distinct clicking sound.
She looked up at the study window, frustration building as it blocked her view of Bennett.
She couldnât come to terms with the idea that their engagement was over or that she had lost Bennett.
Wiping her tears away, she walked back to her car.
Her mind raced, searching for a way to appease Bennettâs anger.
Finally, she decided to help Bennett find his uncle, hoping it would mend their relationship.
She was determined to confront the lingering issue that had haunted him for years, hoping it would reshape his opinion of her.
She wasted no time and dialed Felixâs number with resolve.
The noise on the other end overwhelmed her, prompting her to shout, âHey, Felix, where are you? Thereâs something urgent I need to discuss!â
âClubhouse,â he slurred.
He obviously was deep into a night of revelry.
The call abruptly ended before she could say more.
Familiar with Felixâs usual spots, she hurried to the clubhouse.
Pushing open the door to his private room at Starlight Club, she felt a wave of stale air hit her.
The room was in disarray-empty bottles littered tables and the floor, evidence of a wild night.
A man near the entrance blinked at her arrival.
âJoann? Looking for your brother?â
Not finding Felix, she frowned and demanded, âWhereâs Felix?â
One of Felixâs friends hoisted him up from where he slumped on the couch, clearly out for the count after a long night of partying.
âFelix, your sisterâs looking for you!â
Felix, swaying slightly, muttered, âSister? Whatâs going on?â
Joannâs face twisted in frustration as she grabbed a glass and poured its contents on him.
Felix snapped out of his stupor.
âDamn it! Whoâs disturbing me?â he grumbled, but softened upon recognizing Joann.
âWhatâs the matter?â
âI need to talk to you,â she said firmly.
âLetâs go outside.
â
If it werenât for Bennett, she wouldnât have stepped foot in this rowdy place.
Outside, Felix stood against the wall, squinting at her in confusion.
