Chapter 2065
When Love Comes Late
Stellaâs cheeks flushed with embarrassment at his words.
She playfully scolded him, âCanât you focus on something serious for a moment?â
Matthew responded with a chuckle, âIsnât planning our future family serious enough?â
Their light-hearted banter continued for a while, filling the car with laughter.
However, reality soon set in, and under Stellaâs gentle prodding, Matthew agreed to head back to the office to finish his dayâs work.
Meanwhile, Lindsay and Lucia also departed from the hospital.
As they walked toward the exit, Luciaâs expression was clouded with displeasure.
Although Lucia had outwardly supported Lindsay in front of the family earlier, she wasnât clueless about the situation.
In a low voice filled with a firm resolve, Lucia addressed Lindsay, saying, âNo matter what your feelings are, Stella is your sister-in-law.
That relationship wonât change.
If you two canât get along, itâs best you keep your distance and avoid further trouble.
â
Lindsay remained silent, head bowed, as Lucia continued, âLuckily, Stella wasnât actually pregnant, so no severe harm was done this time.
But if such an incident occurs again, not even your grandfather and I will be able to protect you.
â
âI understand,â Lindsay muttered, though her heart was filled with deep-seated resentment.
After Lucia and Waldo departed, Lindsay and Joann were left alone.
Joann, still unsettled by the dayâs events, seized the moment to confront Lindsay.
âWhy did you suddenly push me back at the hospital? Were you trying to set me up?â
The fear of being implicated in a potentially tragic outcome-if Stella had been pregnant and harmed-had Joann visibly anxious, especially recalling Matthewâs intense demeanor earlier.
Lindsay, fresh from Luciaâs admonishment and now faced with Joannâs accusations, snapped back impatiently, âNo, I didnât.
But clearly, something was off with you today.
â
Joann, momentarily taken aback by Lindsayâs denial, felt her confidence waver.
She had previously been preoccupied with thoughts of matching Lindsay with Felix, which might have clouded her judgment.
âNo, thatâs not it.
I just assumed Stella was pregnant and everyone was so focused on her.
I didnât want to get involved in any trouble.
â
Trying to redirect the conversation, Joann cautiously suggested, âLindsay, perhaps itâs time to let go of any feelings you have for Matthew.
He didnât defend you today; he only cared about Stella.
If it hadnât been for your grandmother stepping in, he might have involved the police.
It seems pointless to continue pining after him.
â
Lindsay remained silent.
Joann pressed on, âThere are plenty of good men out there.
Even if Matthew and Stella were to divorce, youâd only ever be his second choice.
Itâs better to find someone whoâs never been married.
â
Lindsay studied Joann with a skeptical frown, sensing ulterior motives.
âWhat are you really trying to say?â she asked pointedly.
Joann replied, trying to sound casual yet persuasive, âIâm just saying that my brother is a great catch.
If you were to marry him, it would bring us closer together.
â
The suggestion made Lindsay scoff internally.
How could Felix ever compare to Matthew in her eyes? The thought was almost laughable.
âThatâs enough!â Lindsay cut her off sharply, her patience wearing thin.
âMind your own business, Joann.
You donât need to worry about me.
â
