Chapter 2126
When Love Comes Late
Lindsay gave a bitter smile and asked, âMother? Isnât that term a bit ironic coming from you?â
Betsey looked momentarily unsettled but quickly composed herself and said, âI tried to get you to come back before, but Lucia was against it.
This time, I just used an excuse, and she agreed right away.
Doesnât that show you the Clark familyâs true feelings?â
Lindsay fell silent.
She was well aware of the Clark familyâs attitude.
Ever since Stella became part of their lives, Lindsayâs standing with the Clarks and in Matthewâs eyes had changed.
Betsey glanced at Lindsay and sneered, âLucia has her grandson and a daughter-in-law now.
Who do you think you are to them? Now, youâre just a nuisance.
Do you really think you fit in there?â
Lindsay clenched her jaw and said nothing, her eyes burning with resentment.
Pleased by Lindsayâs reaction, Betsey looked her up and down and said, âYouâre insignificant to the Clark family now.
Since youâre young and attractive, youâd better find a husband soon.
â
Changing the subject, Betsey continued, âThe man Iâve chosen for you may not be as wealthy as Matthew, but heâs a good match.
If you werenât still young and appealing, you wouldnât even deserve his attention.
In a few years, you wonât find a man as wealthy as him.
Just accept my decision and marry him.
â
Lindsay raised her head, staring at Betsey coldly, and said firmly, âI wonât marry the old man.
â
Betseyâs face twisted with anger, and she scolded, âAfter all Iâve explained, how can you still not understand your situation? Do you really think you have a chance with Matthew?â
Lindsay was silent again.
Betsey no longer wanted to talk to Lindsay.
She commanded, âYou have to get married, or you wonât be leaving this room.
If necessary, Iâll tie you up and send you to the church directly.
â
Suddenly, Lindsay burst into laughter.
Taken aback, Betsey furrowed her brow and asked, âWhatâs so funny?â
Lindsay replied deliberately, âWhy wonât I have a chance with Matthew? Do you know why Iâm so eager to return? Because Matthew invited me to go to Sothrea with him, an opportunity even Stella didnât get.
â
âReally?â Betsey asked, uncertain.
Lindsay pulled up her chat with Fernando and said, âHis assistant sent me a message just now.
If you donât believe me, look at the message yourself.
â
Betsey took the phone with doubt.
After reading the message, she asked uncertainly, âWhy would his assistant message you instead of him?â
With a mocking smile, Lindsay explained, âGiven Matthewâs position, do you think heâd leave any trace that could be held against him?â
Betsey paused to think for a few seconds.
Eventually, not wanting to upset the Clark family, she agreed and said, âFine, Iâll let you go this time.
But you either pay me thirty million dollars or marry the man Iâve chosen.
Thereâs no room for negotiation.
â
With that, she tossed the phone back to Lindsay, turned, and walked away.
Lindsay clenched her teeth, a sneer forming on her lips.
She wasnât ready to give in just yet.
