Chapter 2138
When Love Comes Late
Lucia was still unconscious.
Only Waldo and a maid, who was attending to Lucia, were in the room.
Upon seeing Stella, Waldo asked the maid to leave.
He asked quietly, âWhatâs the situation over there? Have you heard anything about Matthew?â
At the mention of Matthewâs name, Stella felt a pang of pain.
She stifled it and shook her head.
âNot yet.
â
Waldo let out a sigh.
Stella gazed at Lucia lying in the bed, stepped closer, and asked with concern, âHow is Lucia? Did she faint because she heard about what happened to Matthew?â

Waldo nodded and explained, âYou could say that.
I kept it from her after I found out about what happened to Matthew.
But when the Wheeler family stirred up trouble, she found out and collapsed from the shock.
â
He looked at Luciaâs pale face, his expression a mix of sorrow and guilt.
Stella was puzzled and furrowed her brow.
She asked, âThe Wheeler family? What did they want?â
With a deep sigh, Waldo responded resignedly, âThey found out Lindsay is missing.
They demanded an explanation from us.
â
His frustration was evident.
He sharply added, âI know what theyâre after.
They just want money.
They donât care about Lindsay at all.
â
As he recalled the Wheeler familyâs attitude that day, Waldoâs anger made him cough.
Stella gently patted his back to soothe him.
âDonât worry about those minor issues.
If they cause any more trouble, Iâll take care of it.
â
Upon hearing her words, he looked at Stella and replied with a distressed tone, âSorry, Stella.
I know thereâs a lot on your plate managing everything.
â
Stella smiled softly and replied gently, âItâs my duty.
As Matthewâs wife, I must shoulder his responsibilities in his absence.
â
Waldo sighed and expressed his admiration, saying, âWe were right about you.
Matthew is truly fortunate to have married you.
â
Just then, Lucia, who had been unconscious, suddenly woke up.
Stella immediately addressed her, saying, âLucia.
â
As soon as Lucia saw her, tears welled up in her eyes.
She clasped Stellaâs hand eagerly and said, âTell me the truth.
Has something happened to Matthew?â
Stella had been feeling down for several days, and now she was nearly overwhelmed, yet she tried not to show her distress to Lucia, who had just woken up.
Holding back her tears, Stella reassured her, âLucia, what are you talking about? Matthew is fine.
â
âReally?â Luciaâs eyes filled with tears.
Clearly, she was skeptical.
Stella responded calmly, âAbsolutely.
Remember our dinner conversation recently? Matthewâs dealing with some complicated business in Sothrea.
He hasnât returned because heâs just swamped.
Donât let baseless rumors bother you.
â
Lucia seemed unconvinced.
After a moment, she responded stubbornly, âNo way.
I need to call Matthew.
Iâll only relax when I hear his voice.
â
As she spoke, she struggled to get up.
