Chapter 2180
When Love Comes Late
As Stella softly spoke to him, Matthew slowly began to regain his composure, and his complexion started to improve.
Noticing his improvement, Stellaâs face lit up with relief.
Tears welled in her eyes, and her voice trembled as she asked, âFeeling a little better? Need some water?â
She then stood up to fetch him a glass of water.
Matthew inhaled deeply.
By the time he looked up again, his eyes were clear.

Just then, Stella returned with the water.
She attempted to help him drink, lifting the glass to his Lips.
Matthew immediately pulled back, his brow furrowing.
Stella halted, the glass still suspended in the air.
Ignoring Stella, Matthew turned toward Lindsay and questioned, âWhy are you still up? What are you doing here?â
Quickly putting on a face of innocence, Lindsay responded softly, âI knew you tend to skip meals when busy, so I prepared some of your favorite dishes.
â
At that moment, Matthew noticed the maid beside her holding a food container.
Lindsay continued, âI came in and saw you struggling with a headache.
Why the sudden pain?â
She paused, casting a glance at Stella, and then added sarcastically, âI was about to give you some medication when I saw how much pain you were in, but Stella wouldnât let you have any, making you suffer all this while.
â
Before she could complete her statement, Matthew interjected, âYou should rest; thereâs no need to bring me food.
Iâm well cared for here.
â
Lindsayâs face momentarily showed a flash of embarrassment.
Matthew had not only interrupted her but had also disregarded her comments about Stella.
Feeling wounded, Lindsayâs voice broke as tears welled up in her eyes.
âMy Legs donât work; I canât do much.
Is it too much to ask to cook for you? Whatâs the purpose of my life if I canât even do that?â
Matthewâs expression darkened, his response a bit harsh as he said, âI didnât mean it that way.
â
Tears streamed down Lindsayâs cheeks as she said in despair, âI crossed a line, didnât I? You have Stella to look after you.
I shouldnât have intruded.
It wonât happen again.
Iâll leave now.
â
She then instructed the maid, âLetâs go, and take the food container with us.
â
As the maid moved to assist Lindsay with her wheelchair, she noted Lindsayâs pallid complexion and quickly said to Matthew, âMr.
Clark, itâs really difficult for Miss Wheeler to get around, and she spent all afternoon preparing these dishes.
Perhaps you could try some.
.
â
Lindsay interjected, âStop, letâs not make a scene.
Letâs go.
I donât want to be a burden here.
â
Stellaâs face tightened with displeasure as she observed Lindsayâs masterful portrayal of distress.
