Chapter 2221
When Love Comes Late
Matthewâs brow furrowed, his displeasure clear.
âDonât go looking for Stella again.
Avoid any contact with her.
â
Lindsay was momentarily stunned.
Why was Matthew suddenly so concerned about Stellaâs well-being? Hadnât he lost his memory?
Despite her confusion, she chose not to question him further, not wanting to raise his suspicions.
After a pause, she replied, her voice tinged with resignation, âI understand.
Iâll do as you say.
â
Matthew nodded and was about to call Fernando.
In a rush, Lindsay said, âMatthew, I really donât want to go back home yet.

Matthewâs expression soured further.
Lindsay fought back tears, casting a glance at her legs as she implored, âMatthew, please, take me back to the party.
Iâm begging you.
Itâs been ages since Iâve been to one.
With my condition, my chances of attending another party will only diminishâ¦â
Matthewâs eyes flicked to the wheelchair, and after a moment of hesitation, he gave a reluctant nod.
Meanwhile, Stella had returned to the banquet hall, just in time for the charity auction.
Sanford, having wrapped up his work, scanned the room and spotted Stella in a corner.
Concerned by her demeanor, he approached and asked, âIs something wrong? Where did you go?â
Stella forced a smile and replied, âI just needed some fresh air.
â
Sanford looked as though he wanted to probe further, but Stella, sensing his intent, quickly steered the conversation.
âThe auction is about to start.
Shall we head over?â
Sanford gave her a thoughtful look but chose to remain silent.
They took their seats together.
As Stella settled in, she noticed a sign with Matthewâs name on the chair next to them.
Stellaâs expression shifted slightly as she tried to redirect her focus.
Sanford handed her the auction list and asked, âIs there anything you like? I can bid on it for you.
â
Stella declined with a polite smile, âThank you, but thereâs no need.
â
Sanford persisted, his smile widening.
âAre you sure? Or is it that you donât want me to go through the trouble?â
With a hint of embarrassment, Stella responded honestly, âYouâve already done so much for me, and I havenât repaid you.
How can I accept this as a gift?â
Sanford was taken aback by her response.
Raising an eyebrow slightly, he replied firmly, âI havenât had the chance to repay your fatherâs kindness, and I didnât prepare a gift before seeing you.
Consider this your gift.
â
Given his insistence, Stella couldnât refuse again.
She took the list, skimmed it briefly, and selected a necklace.
âIâll choose this one, then.
â
