Chapter 2240
When Love Comes Late
Everyone had anticipated Matthewâs return, but until the end of the meeting, he didnât show up again.
As the senior executives filed out of the conference room, Fernando took advantage of the moment, approaching Stella.
âMrs.
Clark, about Mr.
Clark-â he began, but Stella interrupted with a gentle smile.
âYou donât need to explain, Fernando.
I understand.
â
Fernando exhaled in relief, reassured by her calm demeanor.
Stella, as the CEOâs wife, certainly seemed composed and understanding.
He then offered, âIâll head to the hospital to check on the situation.
Would you like to come with me?â
Swallowing her bitterness, Stella declined with a composed smile, saying, âNo, I have work to finish here.
Just update me if thereâs any news from the hospital.
â
âOkay, Mrs.
Clark,â Fernando responded with a nod before making his exit.
Once he left, the large room felt empty, leaving only Stella and Doreen behind.
Even Doreen, usually oblivious, sensed the tension.
She couldnât help but approach Stella, her voice filled with concern.
âStella, are you alright?â
Forcing a smile, Stella replied, âWhy wouldnât I be?â
Seeing Stellaâs brave front, Doreen felt a wave of distress and frustration on her behalf.
She blurted out, âWhat does Mr.
Clark mean by this? Why does an assistant need him to personally escort her to the hospital?â
When she noticed Stella hadnât responded after a long silence, Doreen assumed she was too upset to speak.
Just as she was about to offer some comforting words, she caught sight of the sweat beading on Stellaâs forehead, her complexion unusually pale.

Alarmed, Doreen quickly reached out to support her.
âStella, whatâs wrong?â she asked, her voice trembling with worry.
Stella, struggling with intense pain in her chest and stomach, could barely manage a word.
Doreen noticed Stellaâs pain and recalled Stella mentioning stomach discomfort earlier that day.
Acting quickly, she said, âIâll take you to the hospital.
Donât try to tough it out.
â
Stella shook her head, struggling through the pain.
In a trembling voice, she replied, âI⦠I have some stomach medicine in my bag.
Could you⦠help me get it? Iâll feel a bit better after taking itâ¦â
Her face was pale, and she struggled to form coherent sentences.
Doreenâs eyes welled with tears, her fear evident.
âNo, look at you! Youâre in so much pain.
You need to go to the hospital for a check- up.
â
After saying this, she couldnât help but express her frustration.
âLook at you, in so much pain, and Mr.
Clark seems more concerned about an assistant than about you.
â
Stella was aware that many in the company had witnessed Matthew carrying Lindsay out.
She didnât want to add fuel to any potential rumors or misunderstandings.
The curious glances from the executives had already affected her.
Stella was determined not to let Lindsay take advantage of the situation or further complicate matters.
