Chapter 2261
When Love Comes Late
Just as they left the office, they bumped into Lindsay.
âMatthew, are you heading out?â Lindsay asked, clearly surprised.
Matthewâs brow furrowed in slight irritation.
âWhy arenât you in the hospital? What are you doing here?â
Feeling unjustly accused, Lindsay explained, âThe doctor gave me the all clear.
Itâs dull staying alone in the hospital, so I came here to keep busy.
I really meant what I said about wanting to get back to work.â
Then, somewhat hesitantly, she inquired, âAre you off to some social event?â
Fernando took a quick glance at Matthew, thinking it was best to keep quiet.
Matthew avoided detailing his plans, dismissing her icily.
âIf you want to be here, then stay.â
Without another word, he walked off briskly, Fernando in tow.
Lindsayâs eyes followed Matthew as he hurried away, her teeth clenched in frustration.
She had feigned illness to attract his attention, and she had come to the company to keep an eye on Matthew.
But now she could sense his growing indifference toward her.
Growing more distressed, Lindsay messaged the mysterious person.
âI canât take this anymore.
Can you help me deal with Stella?â
But the message bounced back.
The number was out of service.
Stunned, Lindsay realized her strongest backer had vanished.
The realization fueled her anger, and she nearly hurled her phone.
Yet, aware she was at her workplace, she forcefully calmed herself.
Meanwhile, at the restaurant, Sanford glanced at Bella and offered, âBella, since youâre the elder, why donât you pick something for us to eat?â
Bella, distracted, responded nonchalantly, âAnythingâs fine.
You decide.â
While speaking, her eyes constantly flickered toward the entrance.
Sanford didnât press further and ordered some of the restaurantâs signature dishes.
Then he passed the menu back to the waiter.
Noticing Bellaâs preoccupation, he too glanced toward the entrance, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Driven by curiosity, he inquired, âBella, whatâs catching your attention?â
Bella shifted her gaze away and answered vaguely, âOh, itâs nothing.â
Stella also appeared restless and finally said, âSanford, just say what you need to say.
My momâs my family.
Thereâs no need for secrets.â
